Sarah's Story

After five years in the Eanes School District in Austin, ending with my freshman year at Westlake High School, I moved with my family to Corpus Christi, where I attended Carroll High School for one semester before we moved again, this time to my dad's home town, Uvalde. I graduated from Uvalde High School in Texas in 1984, and went on to attend Trinity University in San Antonio, where I graduated with a B.A. in English and Spanish. At Trinity I met my future husband, Keith. We were eighteen when we met, became best friends, and stayed in touch off and on over the next couple of decades. After college, I moved to Mexico to work for a non-profit group and eventually went on to get an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of South Carolina. n adjunct position at the University of the Incarnate Word until landing a job with AT&T. I worked at AT&T for seven years holding various positions, my favorite of which was in communications. In 2005, I left Corporate America to move to Russia and pursue a longstanding dream of studying Russian abroad. I planned to be in Russia indefinitely, but while living there, reconnected via email and phone with Keith, my best friend from college. He flew out to St. Petersburg for a visit and we became engaged. So at 40, I left Russia after only one year to come home and get married. Keith and I currently live outside of Memphis, where he was raised. I've done temp work off and on in the Memphis area since then, my favorite gig being International Paper, where I am working in communications. Life is good!
