Scott's Story
School
One of my best memories from High School was being a Disc Jockey and playing the MD-Dance-a-thon and a bunch of sock hops in the gymnasium.
My friend Marcos and I started the business after a band we were in broke up, and we ended up spinning records for a graduation party to fill a slot the band had originally committed to.
Roger Dively and John Domschke also helped on occasion. I continued partway through college until eventually selling the entire business to someone who just completed the DJ-School.
Mostly I went through high school having no clue what to do for a living. Once I thought aeronautical engineering was the thing, and then music. Actually went to college to get a degree in music and business, but after graduating from college ended up in computers. Go figure.
College
Flunked out of Elmhurst College, went to Harper to finish my Associates, then got serious and finished off at Western Illinois Univ. with my High School Buddy John Domschke. Finished in 1989, them moved to Texas.
OK, I didn't PLAN on flunking out. It kinda happened because 1)I took 21.5 semester hours my freshman year, and 2) someone convinced me to join a Fraternity at the same time.
Do I regret my decisions? Nope, not one. Today I look at it as a (very) expensive lesson in life. There are a lot of things that are FUN (like joining a fraternity) and a lot of things that are NOT (like advanced music theory EVERY morning at 8am SHARP). Sometimes these things don't mix well.

ut it did force me to re-focus my priorities and understand the concept of "Balance". Too much work will kill you. Too much Fun will too.
These days I relish the memories and people I've met over the years. It's these friendships and experiences that are the most important thing to remember.
Ultimately, this balance of school/work and friends was a happy medium. Concentrating on school/work helped make the fun-times more enjoyable, and enjoying the fun-times helped make the School/work have purpose and meaning. (I'm sure there's some Zen-like reference in there somewhere, but I digress).
The bottom line is, learning the "balance" of life was the most important lesson.
Workplace
After working at Radio Shack during college, I took a job with UCS working with Computers and Mainframe software. Then worked for a consulting firm, then as a Webmaster for a Medical company in Houston.
Left for a job at Compaq, and after 3.5 years was hired away to do consulting work in Austin, right about the time the economy turned south. Still hanging in there doing Systems and Network Administration, help manage 2 Co-Location facilities as well as Cisco 3rd level support for their Contact Center software (CIS) packages. I'm basically the all-around Windows Networking guy and security specialist (MCSE+Exchange, CUSE).
Most recently I've been doing Customer Relationship Management with a team of engineers in the Cisco VOIP arena. There's some travel involved (mostly within the State of Texas).
