Scott Walker's Story

I attended Brent School from the first grade through the eighth grade (1957-1965). My parents were Baptist missionaries and taught at the Baptist seminary in Baguio. We returned to the States after my eighth grade year. I attended Furman University and Mercer University in Macon, Ga. Later I went to seminary and then completed doctoral studies at the University of Georgia in the area of adult developmental psychology. I was a pastor for 35 years. I am now a professor at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia and direct The Institute of LIfe Purpose. I am married to Beth Rushton Walker and we have three grown children, Drew, Luke, and Jodi. I have returned to Baguio twice since 1965 and still feel like Baguio is "home." I loved my eight years at Brent School and feel like attending Brent was one of the greatest gifts I have ever received. My "second vocation" is writing. Several years ago I wrote a book titled, "The Edge of Terror:...Expand for more
The Heroic Story of American Families Trapped in the Japanese-Occupied Philippines (New York: St. Martin's Press, 2009). The book mentions the saga of Brent students trapped in the Philippines during WWII. It also tells the story of the escape of Susan and Kathy Fertig's parents on the Island of Panay. You can obtain the book through Amazon.com or Abebooks.com. I try to keep up with 1969 classmates from Brent. Over the years I have been in touch with Steve Schuchmann (a life-long buddy), Steve Plagens, Debbie Benefield, Vic Greene, Lyn Martin, John Kretzmann, Dennis Wilhite, Joy Howard, Doug Gray, Judy Cox (all class of 1969). Joy and Doug have died in recent years. I have also attended three Brent School national reunions. I am grateful for this website and the ability it gives Brent alums to communicate. My home address is 285 College St., Macon, GA 31201. My cell phone is 254-230-6866. I am writing this note in July 2014.
