Scott's Story
Life
I am sorry that I have not been able to attend any of our class reunions, but I will try to highlight some of the things that have occurred since our high school graduation back in 1970.
After graduation, I attended Wheaton College and Wheaton Graduate School, where I earned my BA and MA respectively. Then I moved to Oregon where I worked for the State of Oregon for a little over 21 years.
I am married to Sharon, and we have 4 children. Our oldest, a boy, is also married and he and his wife made us grandparents. They are currently raising support to move permanently to Slovenia as missionaries. Our next child, also a boy, has a home and is working various jobs to help pay for it. He is an accomplished musician and enjoys golf and cars. Then came our first daughter who is also is married and is finishing up her nursing degree. She lives in Nebraska. Our youngest, also a girl, will attends Western Oregon University and works for Olive Garden Restaurant in Salem. Both of our daughters are also very accomplished artists.
In addition to working for the State of Oregon, I have been also been very active working with churches, preaching and teaching; ...Expand for more
directing choirs and worship; playing organ, piano, and keyboard; doing counseling and visitation. I also write poetry and compose and arrange sacred and classical music, including choral and instrumental works. One of these was published in 2007. I also started writing a book, but I do not know if I will be able to finish it as a result of my stroke.
Yes, on January 1, 1999, I suffered a massive stroke which has left me severely disabled. People have often asked me why God would allow something like that and my reply has always been to ask them why not. There are so many others all around that are worse off than I am, and they are the ones that I am most concerned about.
I am currently involved in leading a Stroke Survivors & Caregivers Support Group through the Salem Hospital, serving as a member of the Disability Services Advisory Council with Northwest Senior & Disability Services representing Polk County, and I am a member of my church's Homebound Ministry doing visitation of shut-ins. I recently retired from serving in the choir ministry for 10+ years. Finally, I am a Member-at-Large with the Salem Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
