Scott's Story
Life (10/9/21)
I moved to Phoenix after graduation with Brian Higgins and Rich Hazard to go to Arizona State. Crazy times!!! I did (believe it or not) graduate in 1989 with a degree in theatre performance and have been living in Phoenix and working as an actor for the past 35 years.
For most of that time, I worked with a resident acting company called Childsplay. In 1993 I helped found a theatre company called In Mixed Company with some friends from college. I was the Managing Director there for 5 years but then left to give myself more time to pursue directing and acting opportunities around town. I have been directing off and on over the years and that has been challenging and fun. In 2001, I was appointed as the interim Artistic Director of the Stagebrush Theatre in Scottsdale and held that postition for about a year. In 2009 I took the Artistic Director position at Greasepaint Youtheatre in Scottsdale and, though I loved working with the kids, I missed acting too much and returned full time to Childsplay.
I have done some work at theaters around the country including the Fulton Opera House in Lancaster, PA, Seattle Children's Theatre, The Geva Center in Rochester, NY and The Rep in Little Rock, Arkansas.
In 2012, I left Childsplay to join the First National Tour of the ...Expand for more
musical Catch Me If You Can and toured the country through June 2013. Next, I performed in the national tours of Memphis the Musical (which actually previewed in Boise at the Morrison Center) and in the winters of 2014 &15 I played Walter in the national tour of Elf the Musical. In 2016-17, I was on the Dirty Dancing tour. The past couple of years, I have stayed home in Phoenix where I focused on a new show that I helped to write and played the lead in called Cookin's a Drag - it ran in April/May 2019.
When the pandemic hit, I was having a busy year having gone from performing in Parade at AZ Regional to Cabaret for AZ Theatre Company and then, we almost got to our first previews of Something Rotten at Phoenix Theatre when everything shuttered. It's been a long, tough year and a half (Covid hit our household and my in-laws pretty hard) and I was able to direct a production of My Way in an outdoor theatre built at Phoenix Theatre and then their first musical back inside: Pump Boys and Dinettes. Feels so good to be working again!! AND Something Rotten will finally get to be seen in the summer of 2022 - more than 2 years later - wow! It's been a crazy time but we will make it through!!
I would love to hear from people out there and know how things are going for you. Drop me a line.
