Michael's Story

17 June 2008 I just did a long little update on here like just last week, I guess it didn't save. Ahh heck. Okay, so since April 07. I was transferred to Fort Polk, LA just in time to deploy. That was back in Oct 07, I have been over here for my second tour since November. It is a 15 month rotation. I was able to go home and spend both my 7th anniversary and Zowies 1st birthday with the family. It was hard leaving them to come back over here, but hey it is my job and what I signed up to do. I looked at one of the topics on the "story wizard" and felt compelled to write about it. "How do you hope old firends remember you?" Hmmm interesting, I am pretty sure I know how I am remembered. But your guess is as good as mine, I can only hope that I am remembered as a good friend. Back then I was a completely different person from what I am today. I am not proud of who I was, but at the same time do I regret everything that has happened between then and now. No not everything, yes I could have been a better student ah well, yes I could have been alot of things but I wasn't so that is water under the bridge. Some of my dearest friends have seen me since then, as I have changed and matured to the man I am today. Friends that are more like family, people that when I used to go home didn't look at me for anything else than a friend in need. I am grateful for them, they may not be my birth family but they are my famil...Expand for more
y none the less, it took me nearly 20 yrs to realize this. If you read this and only remember the guy that was a slacker, that didn't fit it in really, and was just a real pain, forget that person, and find out who I have become. you can see by my photos part of it. Find me on myspace under michael_abken and see me as I continue to evolve and present myself for who I am. This will probably be the last time write anything on this section, cause I blog most thoughts on myspace. Life 9 April 07 Since I have never wrote on this part. I have been married 6 years on the 21st of April. Wow, who would have thunk it. Actually, I feel like the worlds luckiest man. I married a woman from Sequim, Wa. Who gave me 2 great kids, my daughter Jessie, and my son who I was there for the birth Christian. She joined me on my journey in the military. She has been my rock through good times and bad. Now we are expecting our first child together. Zowie is due at anytime. Military 14 Jan 05 I have transferred to FT. Huachuca, AZ. I am now an Instructor for my job. The family seems to like it down here. I enjoy it since it seems like spring time for us Washingtonians. I have been at FT Lewis since 1999. Currently at 502nd Military Intelligence BN, as a Commond Ground Station Team Leader. Deployed to Iraq in Jan 04 to Dec 04. I was at Abu Ghraib for all but a month of that time. Got promoted to Staff Sergeant in Sept 04.
