Sean's Story
Life
Sean was born in Seoul, Korea on December 25th 1978. He started studying theory and piano at age five from his mother. In 1991, Sean and his family moved to Toronto. Sean struggled with a new language, culture, and religion but found he excelled in classical music. He continued his piano studies with Peter Longworth at the Royal Conservatory of Music. From 1997 Sean attended the University of Western Ontario, completing a degree in theory and composition in 2001. Sean studied piano with John-Paul Bracey and Gwen Beamish and composition with Peter Clements, Kim Lundberg, Dr. Peter Paul Koprowski and Dr. Omar Daniel. During these years Sean also studied harpsichord/continuo through the Early Music Studio where he was coached by Dr. Sandra Mangsen, Dr. Richard Semmens and Joseph Lanza, concertmaster of Orchestra London. y ensembles. In 2003 Sean completed a Master of Music in Composition at UWO. His thesis, a symphony, was advised by Dr. Daniel. Other orchestraÂs who have performed SeanÂs works include The Windsor Symphony Orchestra and the Esprit Orchestra in Toronto. Recently Sean completed a suite for orchestra for the Korean-Canadian Symphony Orchestra in Toronto. We look forward to the premiere in March 2006. As a performer, Sean has worked with Timothy Vernon, Jaap Schroder of the Academy of Ancient Music, Howard Dyck of the Kitchener Waterloo Philharmonic Choir, Howard Cable, and with Jeanne Lamon of the Tafelmusik Chamber Orchestra. Currently Sean is the music director at St. John the Divine Anglican Church in Arva, and an examiner/adjudicator for Conservatory Canada. Sean performs regularly with Orchestra London as a continuo/harpsichordist, and conducts the Blyth Festival Orchestra. Sean also teaches music theory at UWO.
