Seville's Story
Most will remember me as one of the 1977 graduation class speakers. My friends know me as Cadillac_SOUL on SMULE SING, a karaoke app, where I have over 6,000 followers. I also enjoy reading, writing and genealogical research. Since losing my son in a tragic auto accident in 2015, I have decided to stay put in Columbus for now. My daughter, Sade is a Sociologist and Researcher at Cornell University. In my latter years I find many senior baby boomers who need direction in transitioning into housing and out of housing into situations that better suit their needs; it does not matter whether they are buying or selling. Have you been informed of your newly assessed home value in Franklin County? Can you imagine the impact it may have on increasing our insurance rates?
When I grew up on Hamilton Park Avenue, I recalled how my Aunt Sarah provided housing to the day workers who paid on a weekly basis. She also owned 3 rentals that were affordable in a multi-family unit in the rear of her home ...Expand for more
and a rooming house on Mount Vernon Avenue that provided temporary boarding to men that had been recently released from prison. Her main house still stands today, but it is no longer in the family. Her closest surviving heir literally gave it away for a mere $36,000; today it's worth over half a million!
Many of our near east side neighborhoods are either experiencing gentrification or deterioration. As a result, many of our families have lost their dignity along with their equity, legacy and integrity. I wrote about Columbus' history of the Black-owned real estate broker at the 10th anniversary of Take A Look Real Estate Brokers in 2021. We are here to serve the community in which we live, as well as the communities in which we have lived.
