Shane's Story

Life Okay...an interesting story. Once I drove from Edmonton all the way to Cape Breton Island and came back through the states and then went to Vancouver and back to Edmonton. Points in between of course: camping, lakes, beaches, Montreal Expos, Toronto Blue Jays, whale watching and so on and so forth. Another time I drove to Sacramento and then to PEI. Another time I went to Toronto with my brother....Still haven't flown across an ocean yet but I got a feeling I might.... School Okay my biggest crush in high school was.....Jenna Van Dine, hands down. There I said it. She was a grade below me. I had other crushes I guess but that is the one that I remember the most and it seemed mutual, although I guess she would have to speak for herself. The teacher that inspired me the most was Mr. Hughes: I just liked him and he said that I had potential. Mr. Riar also inspired as he was the basketball coach: I failed one of the only classes he ever taught me, ironically. I saw him the other day: he looks good. I would do it all over again if I could. Except for March 3rd, 1994: that was a BAD high school day!!! Craziest memories are all sports related: I've never been much of a partier so nothing to regale really, not from high school anyways. Getting beat up in an elevator in Kamloops on a high school basketball trip was crazy, I guess. Disneyland on New Year's Eve was something else as well. I have stayed in touch with Bill Leoppky, David Opalinsky, Rebecca New, and Matthew Glinski from our grad class although I guess Matt moved at the end of grade 11 and didn't graduate with us but I still count him. Sometimes I still talk to Bethany Lewis and Christine Decker (different last name now) but not a great deal. Also I work with Jen Booth who was a grade below us: I didn't really know her in high school thoug...Expand for more
h. I have lost touch with Tara Lack and Greg Tychon and they were good friends of mine during high school: no real reason, you know how it is. Last time I saw Greg was at the University of Alberta about 3 years ago. We had a spare and we would sit and talk for a long time like it was a minute - comparable intelligence and mutual interests does that. As for Tara.... she came to my Christmas party in 2001. I think she moved to Lethbridge. At least that is the last thing that I recall. Outside of our grad class I have some friends that I stay in touch with mostly, but not completely, through my brother Kane: Terry Olsen, Gerald Gordon, Marni Zaozirny (different last name now), Hein Lu, Matthew Williamson, Mike Faria, and Jesse Brochu. Once last year I was out at the bar and Randy Singh was there and we started chatting and ended up talking for hours in his car. There are probably others as well... Workplace Name the company - there is a good chance that I have worked there. Right now I work for the Wickaninnish Inn in beautiful Tofino, British Columbia where I plan to stay until the spring of 2008. I am doing okay by my own standards, room for improvement, could be worse. Approaching 30 years of age and I am not career oriented yet and may never be. Although I like the people I work with generally I don't like my employers and think I may own my own business some day. My only goal right now is to avoid dying a death related to global warming. I consider myself to be the greenest person I know because I advocate attacking the current environmental crisis at it's roots (the emphasis we place on material gain) whereas most simply deal with symptoms. If I got killed by a flood or a hot weather induced tornado that would be soooo ironic I would puke if I was alive: kind of like a vegetarian getting eaten.
