Shane's Story

Life Hey everyone. Well, at first I thought to myself . . . how pathetic is this that I am filling out this stuff? . . . Then I realized that, over the past year or so, I have had quite a bit of nostalgia and have often thought of my friends from Franklin High–with most of whom I have lost contact over the past 15 years (and friends from Franklin College and Baylor Law School, as well). I guess it starts to happen at our age. The whole "where are they now?" syndrome. Anyway, I live here in Indy. As you may know, Karen M. and I got married in 1995, had Kendon, and then later divorced. Kendon is now 12, going on 13 in August (Sheesh. . . .). Great kid. I'm very proud of him. Karen remarried to a great guy and had a second child by that marriage (a beautiful little girl). Everyone gets along great. I'm still single and for the most part loving it. I get to travel a lot for work and play. I often mix the two. It's hard to describe what I do. I am a consultant to attorneys, trust officers, social workers, government officials, and physicians on how the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 affects Social Security and Medicaid benefits for persons with disabilities. I have found that I have both a talent and a passion for this particular area of the law and government. Anyway, I started my own company about a year and a half ago and have been working hard on that. We are off the ground (finally) and operating ...Expand for more
in 33 states. It is hectic at times, but I love being my own boss. I speak at conferences and seminars, and write articles for various newsletters and magazines related to the field. I also can be found from time to time on PBS television and NPR radio as a guest expert on Medicaid law, Social Security law, and Special Needs estate planning. One of the highlights of my career thus far is having a private dinner with Kim Peek, the inspiration for the movie Rain Man, with Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. It was one of the most memorable nights of my life. Lessee, what else? It feels weird to talk about myself 100%, but what else are you supposed to do on this site? I don't play the saxaphone much anymore, but I own a small recording studio in my home and I cut my first CD of original piano compositions last fall. I love it, but of course I'm a little biased. Drop me a line, even if we didn't know each other that well. Would love to hear from you. I sometimes regret not making deeper connections when I was younger. When I was in high school, I was too worried about trying to be a grown up; when I was in college, I was too busy getting drunk and otherwise underachieving; and when I was in law school, I was too busy trying to get the heck out and remembering why I wanted to go in the first place. Anyway, if you think I may be able to help you find someone that you are looking for, let me know. Take Care, Shane Service.

This is either dawn or dusk at Northwestern. Not sure which.
The coffee sucks, but the view is much better than Don & Donna's
Yup. Got a tattoo and bought a Harley. Call it an early mid-life crisis.
Great, now put down that camera and get us a beer
