Shanna's Story
Life
After High School, I went onto Stephens College in Columbia Missouri for 3 years. Unfortunately, for financial reasons, I had to drop out of school before my fourth year. It did though lead me to a career in the natural foods industry working for a premier wholesaler in Denver Colorado. It was exciting to learn about Organic food and commodity trading as well as get to personally know some of the people behind such now well known brands as Silk, Horizon and Wild Oats. During my ten years in Colorado, I also had a small brokerage firm representing various manufacturers. I decided though after a few years, that my heart was in music. In the background of all my work, I was hanging out with the music crowd of Boulder Colorado, including such people as Big Head Todd and the Monsters and The Samples. I was backstage at Red Rocks. d Rocks on the Fourth of July singing the song Fourth of July with Les Claypool and John Wesley Harding. Amazing days. In order to achieve some professional changes, I returned to Columbia Missouri to complete my degree. The sojourn took six years, but it was wonderful with a job in the construction industry that allowed me to hone skills in the workplace, and be among my closest friends. I graduated from Stephens with a BA in Political Science in May 2003. What an honor. Stephens truly is a fine institution. I've finished my MA at the University of New Orleans, and survived Katrina. I'm now working for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation. We produce the festival Jazz Fest that attracts over 500,000 annually. I write grants and currently coordinate the development efforts. On a personal level, I'm in love with a great guy and do not have children.
