A few years ago I changed my name from Sharon Bouma Holtrop back to my birth name, Sharon Lynn Bouma. I still use my nickname, Cherie, in informal settings.
I had changed to Sharon Bouma Holtrop when I married Steve. A few years ago we decided to legally change both our last names to Bouma-Holtrop. As we started using the combined name we decided that wasn't exactly what either one of us wanted. So he went back to being Steve Holtrop, and I legally changed back to Sharon Bouma.
My Life in Decades:
1950s: Born 6 weeks before the end of the decade in Granum, Alberta, Canada.
1960s: Lived in Alberta, Canada; Palo Alto, California; and Pasco and Kennewick, Washington.
Attended Loma Vista Elementary, Robert Frost Elementary, and Bethlehem Lutheran Schools.
1970s: Lived in Kennewick, Washington and attended Bethlehem Lutheran School and Kamiakin High School.
Moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan to attend Calvin College.
1980s: Graduated from college, married Steve Holtrop, lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Miami, Florida; Sioux Center, Iowa; and Iowa City, Iowa.

Volunteered at a food co-op, churches, a food bank, La Leche League, and various political campaigns.
1990s: Lived in Iowa City, Iowa and Huntington, Indiana.
Volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
Became a volunteer leader and administrator with La Leche League. Enjoyed traveling around the western U.S. speaking at conferences and helping to train LLL leaders.
Became an Elder in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and served on the Session Board. Also taught many Sunday School classes to children and adults and played piano for church choirs and other musicians.
Homeschooled our three children.
Road-tripped and camped around much of the United States and a bit of Canada.
Enrolled in Purdue University as a graduate student in Sociology.
2000s: Received a Master's degree in Sociology with an emphasis on Religion.
Taught Sociology at Purdue University and Huntington University.
Completed course work, comprehensive exams, all the research and most of the dissertation-writing toward a PhD in Sociology with an emphasis on Marriage, Family, and Gender.
Discovered that mercury amalgam dental fillings were making me seriously ill. Had all eleven fillings removed and replaced with safe materials. Changed eating patterns to eat completely natural and organic foods to help remove the remaining mercury from my cells.
Water-fasted one day each week, plus three days each month, plus ten days every three months for five years until I had completely regained my health.
Traveled to Europe for the first time.
