Sharon's Story

Life I am the proud mom of a 23 year old daughter who is in her third year of college! I cannot believe that when I see it or say it, but it's true. She is AMAZING. I don't know how I was blessed to have her, but I am glad she is mine! I am also a Partner in a Technology firm. We specialize in WiFi, WiMax, Mesh and anything related to high speed internet (VoIP, IPTV, etc). It's fun - challenging as hell and an amazing thing for me to be involved with, seeing as my favorite science class was Earth Science at Newton High. Before becoming an owner in this Tech Firm, I owned a Disability Job Placement firm that helped injured (think Workers Comp) and Disabled people find appropriate work and the best pay I could get for them. In Courtroom settings I am an Expert Witness in Disability Job Placement. I saw with my own eyes how bad things happen to good people when insurance companies are involved and I finally had to leave that career because I couldn't watch anymore and had only so much power to help them. It sucked but now I am having fun and no one is getting hurt! School Biggest Crush in grade school - Andover Regional's Kenny Cordes. Damn he was FINE! LOL Newton High - I was only there one very happy year (Freshman) before I had to move to Florida because my dad retired from Picatinny Arsenal. Seminole High: What a transition. It felt like I had been abducted by aliens and dropped here. It was nice enough but it wasn't ME! I hated it here for 10 years before I finally got accustomed to it! Just like the rebel I was, the summer prior to entering my Sophmore year down here in Florida, I made all the necessary arrangements to move back to Newton, live with my next door neighbors, get my dogs back and go back to Newton High. Highlights: I got to see Donnie Mendrick (7th grade/Andover classmate) once when his school was playing mine in a football game - we caught up with each other at Pizza Hut after the game - it was just a fluke - I was with a big bunch of friends and with the guy I was dating at the time (who later became my husband) and Donnie said "Sharon??" loud enough for me to hear - I instantly recognized him and we hugged like we were the only two humans on earth. I was SO glad at that time to see someone from my "hometown". Of course, my boyfriend was not at all thrilled, and to this date he never has gotten over it. Hey - Donnie was my first spin the bottle kiss and "closet date" in 5 minutes to heaven at Barbie Campbells house!! Only one problem - my dad said NO WAY IN HELL! Damn, he could have given me a 'e' for effort or an 'i' for initiative! Instead he grounded me to...Expand for more
my room until school started. I honestly thought I lived in hell until I got older and could appreciate living near the beach! HELLO! I was crazy! Well for someone who hated Florida when they first arrived - I've now lived here 35 years. Is that even POSSIBLE! I can't imagine being over 35 even now my age surprises me - and 2008 is my black birthday year! YIKES! Life's been good and now I live on the beach just south of Clearwater, and have a career where everything changes every day, and an amazing daughter. I wouldn't trade my life for anything! College GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GATORS! For Dezi: GOOOOOOOOOOO KU JAYHAWKS! For my signifcant other/partner, Kevin: GOOOOOOOOO K-STATE WILDCATS! Workplace Spent yesterday as Project Manager of an install at DoubleTree in Busch Gardens area of Tampa. Spending today as Marketing Director for one of my Wi-Fi Clients at Guavaween in Tampa, where I scored her Mamma Guava Wine as "Official Wine of Guavaween" for 1/4 of the value! I LOVE MY JOB! Tomorrow (Sunday) is at the beach, jetskiing and just relaxing, then Monday off to Celebration Golf Club to install WiFi services. Weeeeeee! UPDATE: 2008 Brings new opportunities: City wide Wi-Fi under our "Impulse Connect Networks" banner and my new company, AnyTime, AnyWhere, MobileNet: internet at speeds of over 70MPH! You figure it out! Military As a BORED Senior at Seminole High School in Seminole Florida, I went ahead and took the Air Force and Army tests. I aced them both and was pursued relentlessly through the hallways by the Recruiters to become an Officer and take a job repairing jet engines. Ummmm....WTF? I took 6 months of wood shop at Andover Regional (aka Florence M. Burd). What the hell do I know about repairing jet engines? Their response? But you scored in the 99th percentile! My response! So what! My uncles live in Cali and are in maintenance management at LAX, it runs in the blood. Leave me alone!!! No, I never did sign up. I had 5 college who approved my application, and my family was pressuring the hell out of me to get to college - so much so, I rebelled again and got married instead! So take that! I ended up going to college and am 1 class from a law degree, but I don't have any faith in a piece of paper hanging on the wall that says you are smart just because you got through school. APPLY IT! So I ventured out and started opening my own businesses. School of hard knocks! I love it, and have owned 3 companies - this Technology Firm partnership being my 3rd. (UPDATE) AND my new Tech Company being my 4th!! Other Factoids: Favorite Teacher: Mrs. Whitlock - 1st grade at Andover.
