Shawn's Story
Life
In November of 2006, I remarried, for hopefully the last time. Sheri and I have spent many years together as first friends, then boyfriend/girlfriend, and now as husband and wife. We had a beautiful ceremony, Sheri looked like a Princess on our wedding day. Take a peek at the photos and see if you donÂt agree. Our wedding was a semi-military wedding, semi because we didnÂt use the sabers/swords.

My oldest daughter has enlisted in the Army, graduated from Basic Training in August 2006, and her occupational training for computer systems management in July 2007. She is now stationed at Fort Bragg, NC.

Sheri and I have the remaining 3 children (Heather, Feb 1991; Benjamin, Nov 1994; Rebecca, May 1996) living with us in Maryland.
College
I attended St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing (now College of Nursing) in Utica NY, and graduated with ADN in Dec 1994. I finished my BSN with the University of Phoenix, Online on Sept 14, 2007. I am still contemplating going after a Masters either as a FNP or a CRNA, but I will have to wait until I return from Iraq in June 2009.
Workplace
I have been a Level III NICU nurse for the better part of the last 14 years, with some experience working in the PICU as well.
Military
Nursing is my second career after serving in the US Army for 13-years, starting out as a Pharmacy Technician for 4 years and then changing fields to Military Intelligence Analyst for about...Expand for more
8 years. I was stationed/lived in what was then West Germany for 3 years and 2 years in Panama (while General Noreiga was dictator) along with multiple locations across our country (Ft Riley, KS; Ft Lewis, WS; Ft Bragg, NC; Ft Campbell, KY; Ft Huachuca, AZ), during which time I have seen/traveled pretty extensively throughout 48 of our 50 states including Alaska & Hawaii, along with several other countries as well. But, I have yet to see Utah or Nevada. I ran a military dependant health clinic pharmacy in West Germany from '81 to '84. I served in one so-called armed conflict/excursion, but somehow that doesn't describe it the way a soldier sees it when you see muzzle flashes pointing at you. Also, I was a paratrooper with a tremendous fear of heights for eight years. I've been to some of those exotic and far away places and know there is no place like home.
Currently I am a Captain in Army Nurse Corps in the Maryland Army National Guard. My goal is to return to Active Army after completing my BSN. My goals is to take the Army's training for either FNP or CRNA.
My goal(s) will have to wait for now, as I am getting ready to deploy to Iraq and will not be able to pursue any career development until I return home sometime around end of June 2009.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Cindy Behler, because she was my friend, and I had the biggest crush on her. I think about her often..
