Shawn's Story
Since High School (where I was MIA for some portion of my time - long story) I went on to attend Southern Illinois University and obtain a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy. Don't ask why. I then obtained a Master's degree in Theology a couple of years later. My intention at the time was to teach. Life always has other plans.
Having remained in Southern Illinois, for the most part, I went on to become a Martial Arts instructor and own a school in Marion, IL for approximately three years called Warrior's Academy of Martial Arts. After closing my school due to financial reasons, I became involved in the radio business as a Promotions & Non-Traditional Revenue Director for a six-station cluster of Clear Channel station based in Marion, IL.
I left radio for the print world and have been a Sales Manager at The Southern Illinoisan for five+ years now. I specialize in New Media, Market...Expand for more
ing and Sales Development and have been in charge of The Southern's website for the last three+ years.
On a personal note, I am married and have a terrific two year old son. My wife, Erin, is a Speech Pathologist and works for CCS. My son, Owen, is a full-time two year old and loves his work. We also have an unusually large cat named Timmers. I think he has his own profile on here, so I won't elaborate.
When I'm not involved in all things marketing and advertising, I am a craft beer aficionado. I work as a freelance beer writer and consultant and also maintain two websites dedicated to the appreciation of craft and specialty beer - The Beer Philosopher and The Aleuminati - the latter is essentially "MySpace for Beer-Lovers." I am a fanatical home brewer as well. Short of that, my family are avid SIU Basketball and Football fans and can be found at most every tailgate and game.
