Started school at Brookside Jr. High in 1967, the 5th grade. Mrs. Vandever was the teacher then. Guess I kinda got the reputation of taking up for myself & any of my friends. Seems like Mama was always having to come to the school & bail me outta trouble for fighting. But I grew up with mostly boys & had to be tough. Mrs. Driver was my 6th grade teacher, we all loved her! Mr. Valakus was the bus driver & took us on lots of field trips, had a blast! Then came 7th grade. This is the year my brother Tommy Lee died. Almost the entire school turned out for his funeral. Broke my arm playing basketball. Anna Blair & I both, had the ball in our hands & Anna slung me around to try to take ball & my arm popped.(it was an accident) Was told the whole gym heard it break & went into a dead silence, except for me, I was screaming my lungs out.
