Shelby's Story

I drpped out the end of 11th grade. Got my G.E.D. Woked 2 jobs and went to Heritage College. Passed The national exam; & worked as a Massage Therapist in MO's #3 Hair Salon in lee's Summit for about 6 months. I had about 5-6 clients a day making 55% ( whihc isn't very common) But none of thoe ric people tiped me.LOL And then my hands told me no more. I would wake up in the morning and they woul be clamped shut, I would have to masage them open. So, I went back and worked in nursing homes as the in the wait staff. I was at some omes were they paid up to 5grand a month to live there. I ended up becoming the wait staff manager, other omes would hear about me and offer me more $$ to come and " clean them up". I got married, & tired of the health care corp. B.S. & I took a year off. My hubby works cutting concrete. Very had ,hot long days in the summer. He takes care of me. But I'm not the type of person that can sit at home. We have not been blessed with any children. I was just my baby Argus (canine,Boxer) so I adopted him a friend.I found him on craig's list. His name is Dozer (an English Mastiff-150lbs) you can probably tell by the pic. I could have left that out.LOL oh well. I worked at Harley Davidson in B.S MO for a while in the motorclotes dept. They didn't pay much and insited that we wear their shirts ( and they liked it when they fit tight- old men...) But we only made a litle more than min. wage, & our discount was only 10%. So a $30 dollar shirt was still just as much as buying stuff at the mall. But I love to shop so of coarse my paycheck went into my wardrobe and the rest in gas to & from, 30 min. drive to & from, 5 days a week. So my hubby...& me decided that It would be cheaper for me to quit. The weird thing is , I miss the sounds of the Harleys more than anything, so of coarse I want my own some day. My man wants a crotch rocket.LOL. It was a nice break again, then he wanted me to go back to work, and so did I after a bit. But thats when the job market went to Sh*t. I tried to find something part time & close to home. Price chopper, sonic, walmart, ect. Nobody was hiring. It took me about a year maybe more to find a job. I put my resume on monster & clicked on everything that sounded fun & somewhat close. I really didn't think anything would come of it. When I was at Heritage I took care of my boyfriend most of the time. I evwen took out my 401k to send him to a tech. computer school he wanted to go to. Even though he was already a computer geek. He had jobs here& there, But thats why I worked so much while in school. To take care of Me ,him & Argus. He would always tell me that he used Monster.com & others; he never ever got a job from an onlime job hunt. But I did ,I got 2 interviews fom the same company a 2 different locations. 1 was for a p/t cashier & the other for a full time, hourly Team Lead Manager. Guess which one I wanted .And on my birthday last year I heard back while at dinner w/ the folks that the position was mine. I was soooo exited. I have been a manager before, but never in retail, just elderly care kitchen. Which is harder by the way; and pays about the same. I am allergic to cats. I had them when I was younger, but it's true, around 12-14 I got allergies to them and it gets worse as I get older. I work at PETCO where the pets go. I have always lived animals; my (now pased grandparents had a farm up north w/ cattle, sheep, hogs and they grew wheat, corn, hay, some type of bean I think. I wasn't aloud down at the hog barn a mi. away. I didn't know then why, but .V. has tought me that thats a good way to get rid of people. LOL probably some mafia or horror movie. Yet it's true they will eat everything. I remember going down there w/ grandpa ,my bro and another farmer friend, and they took some stuff down hanging from the barn ...Expand for more
walls. We wnet back the the house and the 2 men were just laughing their asses off, wierd, they were quite men. Then they were telling grandma what happened , the other man, said " well the foot steps were tiny so it must have been my grandmother." I figured it out aroung 7th grade or better b/c they had passed; it was pot someone hung up to dry.Funny. Anyways since working my new jo I have found that I am also allergic to bird dander, most of the small animals; as I am to cats. Good thing they permote adoption. They don't sell dogs or cats. I have found out that you can adopt anything from a dog to a horse or amster or lizzard through petfinder.com. I's like a google for unwanted pets. And the co. will give you a coupon book for in store if you bing your adoption paperwork.Cool, Hundreds of thousands of cats and dogs get put down in the KC area eac year b/c people don't spay & nueter; so they are just no homes for these pets. alot of places that you buy from get theirs from "breeders" which you can also find in the paper. Most of those are puppymills where the parents never even get to walkout of a small kennel. Especially little ones. They can use haning rabbit cages, so they never even touch the ground. Beware of family raised, or raised on a ranch. Then of coarse there are the super cool guys with their staus image of being cool, or into drugs & $$$ and fight pit bulls. I know first hand that this breed can be one of he best family dogs. It's never the dog that is bad, it's the owner. Dogs are pack animals and they live to follow their alfa male. If that is a person they live to please their leader, even if it mean fight to the death or attack at command..-I am a little partial to this as you can see . I worked in a couple of boarding kennels while in college. Back to mydogs.towards the end of Nov '08 Argus,my baby, got sick.e couldnt pee on his own,I was draining his cathiter every four hours. I was very lucky that I could bring him to work to do so. my vet couldn't find the problem & sent me to VSEC. In 10min. they came back with a diagniosis that in canines there is no hope,he had prostate cancer. But he never acted sick, still played like his nomal bouncy self even with that cathiter. they said that I could continue to drain his cathiter for as long as i wanted to since he really didn't act sick, but there was nothing they could do . He had probably had it for a year of more by the size of his prostate. So I decided to wait until he told me he was ready, we knew each other very well. It only took less than 2 weeks before he acted out of charicter while at work. So I told by bos tat I had to take him.He had just turned 7 in OCT. Some dog lovers say that you will have a soul dog, well he was w/out ? my soul dog. He was ready but he was also scared. I put him on the table and he leadned against me like he did alot.like he just couldn't get close enough to me. It was one of the hadest things I've been thru in my life. I don't care who thinks thats silly. I never have cared what others thought of me. The vet gave us 30min. of alone time before she came in. I had togo by myself b/c my hubby was working 3 hours away. He usually can't hear his phone, so he didn't even know til later that evening, & wouldn't be home for 3-4 days. IT SUCKED..... Now, Mr. Terrance, I havn't paid to be a member of this site. I did not put Paseo as one of the schools that I went to. I did go to summer school there the year 1994 i think. I think in 7-8th grade I was one of those kids they taxied in from BS to get their grae ave. up. I wanted to go to Paseo High for Drama, but they cancelled the program the next year, said I had to pay tuition.HA. So do I know you from kc schools or Heritage. I had a Terrance in my class at that school to? I have to go to work now. email me
