Shelia's Story
I have been married to Robert Henderson for 41 yrs. We have 4 children. Greg, married to a doctor named Heather, has 2 children. My oldest grandchild, and only girl is Kahlan, who is 7 1/2 yrs. old. She has a brother, named Cade, who is 2 yrs. old. Our second son, Doug, has Down's Syndrome, and lives at home, with us. Our only daughter, Stephanie, is married to Tim, who works for Frito-Lay. They have one son, and the only grandchild that lives close enough to visit often, Drew, who was 4 yrs. old in June. We also have custody of 3 young children, see above picture, that we have had for over 2 yrs. They are Braiden,6 yrs.old. And, twin girls, London and Payton, that were 5 in Aug. What a job! But, extremely rewarding. They are in the 1st grade, and Kindergarden. The twins are in 2 different classes. So, that means we have 3 teachers, and three homework schedules. Yes, they do all have homework! The children are not related to either Robert or me, but needed a home, as their dad passed away while their mom was in jail on drug ch...Expand for more
arges. I had been a babysitter for these babies for a long time, and they knew me better than their own grandparents. Unfortunantly, I didn't know that their mom had a problem, and it was all a shock, when CPS called to see if we could keep the children. We tried to just keep them, and let mom visit, but that didn't work. So, we went to court, and I got temp. custody of all three of them. The mom does have suspervised visitation, IF she passes a drug test, and pays for that, and $15.00 an hr. for 2 hrs. for the person that I've chosen to supervise the visit should she have one. She has chosen to not "pay to see her own children", in over 1 1/2 yrs. Which, is very much to their benifit. They are all in counceling for what they have already been through. They don't need any more. But, they are beautiful, smart, funny, and very loving children. We feel very blessed (and sometimes very tired), to have them. Hope all of you are happy and have less stress, but are just as happy with your life, as I am, right now, with my "new family".
