Shelley's Story
Life
After dropping out of school the first day of my Senior year, (I was sooooooo bored!), I got my GED, and went on to college. I now live in the Charleston, SC area and am loving my career as a Registered Nurse. Married to Patrick Driscoll with 3 daughters 25, 21 and 18 (as of 2002), and I now also have a grandson, Christopher, born April 15, 2002! I hate to say it, but I really don't miss the hectic pace of the DC area. Give me the laid back Deep South any day. Always an animal lover, I'm very involved in animal rescue, and have 15 (yes, fifteen!) cats and 2 dogs. I'd love to hear from y'all!
School
School was not a good experience for me. I am very intelligent, and could have been a straight "A" student. However, I was in an abusive home situation, and turned to drugs and alcohol as coping mechanisms, ...Expand for more
and let my grades go down the drian. Finally dropped out the first day of my Senior year of HS to get married and get away from home and my alcoholic mother. It took me several years to get my head on straight, but I finally did it. Got my GED at age 30, and went to college to persue my dream of a career in nursing.
College
College/Nursing School was rough for me as a single parent of 3 young daughters. However, it was the most liberating move of my life. I am financially independent, and will never again be stuck in a relationship or marriage because I don't have enough money to leave. I had a difficult time trying to balance school obligations and parenting obligations. I didn't perform as well academically as I could have because my children needed my time also. It was all worth it in the end though!
