Shelley's Story

Life I definitely define myself as an artist. I surround myself with art, my own and other people's art too. Art makes me happy... the process mainly. It's good therapy. I AM CURRENTLY A ZUMBA FITNESS INSTRUCTOR in Downtown Chillicothe, as of October 2012. It's exercise disguised as dance. I have been involved in the Chillicothe Art league member since 1997 when I moved back to Chillicothe from North Carolina, where I resided for 3 years. In 2000 I founded an annual Art festival with an Earth-friendly theme, a service of the art league to the community. It's called Earth Gathering. In 2005 I married a kind man named Lee Stephens whom I've lived with since November 2002. Lee also graduated from CHS (in 1985-although I didn't know him in high school). I met Lee while I was employed by the Chillicothe Gazette as the Farm Page Editor, paginator, and copy editor (2000-2003). School Drill team, art honor society, ...Expand for more
and school newspaper were a big part of my life in high school. I learned the most from my 7th & 8th grade English teacher Mr. Hershal Craft. John Henshaw was also a brilliant teacher...as well as Lynn Caswell. Of course I owe much to my high school art teacher Nancy Grey who helped me prepare for art school. College I have a 1992 Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Columbus College of Art & Design. I worked for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for several years. I enjoyed that job/area very much and have a great desire to make Chillicothe more like Chapel Hill someday, if possible. I loved its culture and diversity. I hope people remember me as kind, honest, creative and inspiring. I still love to dance when listening to good music and I enjoy walking, playing ball with my dog. I keep up with current events and political happenings daily. I am fond of and participate the democratic process. PEACE!
