Sheri's Story
HI TO ALL "OLD" MY ROTC BUDDIES FROM MAN AND LOGAN HIGH!
After graduaction I tried to joint the Air Force but could not pass the eye test due to being partially sighted. Ironically now I can because I now longer have to wear glasses or contacts because I developed catarats at the age of 35. So, after high school I went to SWVCC, then Marshall University for my BSW (social work) degree. I lived in the Huntington, WV area for many years and worked as a casemanager for a local social service agency. i was a case manager for adults and children with mental health disorders and developemental disorders for about 3 years. Then in 1997 I moved to Lexington, KY and received my MSW Degree at UK (The University of Kentucky). I haved worked as a mental health counselor and medical social work for many years. In 2004 I was given the opportunity to teach social work at the University of Kentucky. I taught the policy class for undergraduates. I currently run a program at St. Joseph Hospital to help patients obtain healt...Expand for more
h care and medications for those who lack health insurance and or prescription coverage. I have been in this position for over 8 years. I have also worked as a social worker in the home health setting during this time frame.
I am married with one child. My husband is from Vietnam and fought there along side of the US Military during the Vietnam War. as a teenager. He later joined the US Mariens as a recon specialist. My husband works in Information Technology for the Federal Government. He has lived a very interesting life.
Considering the fact that I was diagnosed as being "profoundly retarded" and "unadoptable" for many years (for those of you who did not know I was abandoned at birth and adopted at the age of 5) I have done pretty good I suspose. No one ever expected me to go to college. I hope some other opportunities come my way in my carrer. I enjoy being a social worker. I do belive that is what I was called to do.
I can be reached at 859-327-4453 or at 859-313-2173 if anyone wishes to talk.
