Shirlene's Story

Hello Everyone, I thought it would be easier to just answer the questions that they provide in order to form "my story". What about you would surprise everyone at your high school reunion? I like to write, crochet, knit, paint, make my own jewelry, I've learned a little Spanish (comes in handy on my job), I'm learning Sign Languange, and I've recently learned a few words in Korean, Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, and Greek. What's the wildest thing you ever did in school? I think getting caught smoking cigarettes on the roof with some friends by the gym teacher! Scared the daylights out of me. Thought she'd report it, but she didn't. Whew! How do you hope old friends remember you? I think I was sort of the quiet type in school -- I said sort of :-) To be truly happy, you would be where, doing what, with whom? I'm in the process of writing my first book. I'd be so so happy if it's a tremendous blessing to many many people. I'd be very happy living my dreams; being creative, learning new things, and helping people. Life doesn't always turn out the way you expect. What¿s been your biggest surprise? My surprise about life was me getting through some very difficult things over the years. There's been some very good times and some very difficult times. When you're a kid in school, you don't think about the possiblities of "tough times". But I have learned to find God's hand during those times and it's been those "tough times" that's ...Expand for more
given me many valuable life lessons. You get one do-over. What do you do differently? I was a pretty decent student in school, but I think that if I had one thing to do over that I would have developed better study habits in school when I was younger and I would have worked harder at the subjects in school that didn't come naturally to me. What's the weirdest job you ever had? I took a job once at a toy company in New Jersey. The person that interviewed me was probably in his mid to late 20's (his father owned the company). During the interview, I'd sware that I was in the movie "Big" when Tom Hanks played the young boy that went through this transformation at about age 13 and turned into a grown man (but he was still 13). During my interview for an administrative assistant position, this "man" literally played with toys in his office. He tossed things in the air and did everything but shouted "wheeeeee!". His attention span was about 30 seconds and this should have been a clue to me that this was not the job for me. But, he offered me the job, I took it, I regretted it and left within about 3 weeks. Where have you lived? Why did you move? Born and raised in Brooklyn, I moved in 1988 to Rockland County. I lived and worked in Rockland for about 4 years and have lived and worked in New Jersey since then. There's so very much that I could write about to fill in all the years; but this is my story for now and I'm sticking to it! :-)
