Silas's Story
After I left Gordon, I joined the Air Force Aviation Cadet Program. I graduated from that program in June, 1958 as a USAF Officer, Pilot. I spent 5 years flying B- 47 bombers out of Homestead AFB, Florida and Hunter AFB, Georgia. I married while at Hunter and had two sons. After Hunter, I got the chance to fly B-52 bombers and was stationed at Moses Lake, Washington and Riverside, California. During that time I spent three tours in Viet Nam flying 147 combat missions, 7 over the North. After Viet Nam, I pulled a tour of duty at Andersen AFB, Guam as Commander of the 43rd Security Police Squadron and, based on that performance, was then transferred to the USAF Inspector General's Staff in Washington, DC. I retired as a Lt/Col from the Air Force out of Washington in 1977. Then Washington Public Power Supply System, a nuclear power generating company, asked me to come out to Hanford (Richland, WA) and e...Expand for more
stablish the security systems needed for the 5 nuclear power plants under construction. After that was accomplished, I was asked to stay on as Security Manager and then Support Services Manager.
Unfortunately, the wife and I were divorced in 1986 but I do have two sons from that marriage. The oldest, Scott (now deceased) and Mark, the youngest, 42. I did remarry briefly in 1989 but six months after we were married, my stepson was in an auto accident (he was 10) which left him in a wheel chair. The pressure was too much on the marriage and we divorced so she could get better benefits for him and her. I was making to much money for him qualify for Social Security and his Dad was not willing to pay any of the medical bills. She has devoted her life to her son and is living with him North of Seattle. I have been a bachelor ever since. So that brings you up to date on the adventures of Silas R. Telander
