Skip's Story

E. E. (Skip) Campbell retired from UPS in early 2012 after 38 years as a senior manager, While at UPS, Skip held numerous management positions both in the United States and abroad including Operations, Industrial Engineering, and Human Resources assignments in the Alabama District, based in Birmingham, AL and the Mid-South District, based in Nashville, TN; UPS/Alimondo, based in Milan, Italy; Marketing and Information Systems assignments in the Corporate office in Atlanta, GA and the UPS Data Center in Mahwah, NJ, and the South Central Region, also based in Nashville, TN. Skip is a Senior Member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and the Organizational Development Network. Skip sits on the Board of Visitors for the College of Continuing Studies at the University of Alabama and is a member of the Academy of Engineering Advisory Board for G.W. Carver High School in Birmingham, AL. He is also an avid historian and is active in efforts to preserve historical documents and cemeteries. Skip belongs to the Jefferson County Historical Association, Alabama Historical Association, Alabama Archaeological Society, Oak Hill Memorial Association, and Alabama Cemetery Preservation Association. From 2013 through 2019, Skip served as the Director of the University of Alabama's Gadsden Center in Gadsden, Alabama and Executive Director of The Community Development Institute for the Southeastern United States. ly histories of Jefferson County and the city of Birmingham. Skip holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Development with concentrations in Organizational Theory and Macroergonomics. He holds a Master of Arts degree in History from Arizona State University and is pursuing a second doctorate in the history of early 19th century Alabama history and historical archaeology. He received his BS degree in Applied Science and Operations Analysis from the University of Alabama and holds Masters Degrees in Engineering Management, Quality, and Management, as well as Graduate Certificates in Information Systems and Marketing. Skip has also received post-graduate training in Strategic Planning and Strategy Formulation from Georgia State University Center for Executive Education. In addition to his UPS responsibilities, Skip served on the Distance Learning Adjunct Faculty of City University in Bellevue, WA from 1997 to 1999. He also served on the Adjunct Faculty of the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, OH and was appointed as a member of its Center for Strategic Planning. In 1998, Skip went to Kaiserslautern, Germany where he taught graduate-level Quality Management to displaced professionals in conjunction with DAA (Deutsche Angestellten Akademie) Skip is a past Senior Member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the Society of Engineering and Management Systems, and the Society for Work Science. He is also a past member of the Project Management Institute, Society for Human Resources Management, and the Organizational Development Network. Skip and his wife, Denise, have 3 grown children, Adam, Michael, and Erin, and 4 grandchildren, Michael, Jr., Mia., Angie, and Logan.
