Stephanie's Story
Hoping to find people again from high school. Lost touch with everyone when I spent our senior year as an exchange student (France).
WHAT I'VE BEEN DOING:
¿ UNDERGRAD YEARS 90-95: Went to UC Davis from 90-95 majoring in Linguistics, minor Russian/German. Raced road bikes at Davis. Worked for the Forest Service (Sheley) in the summers fighting fires with a lot of other classmates.
¿ LEFT CHICO 93: My parents moved out of state to Missouri in 93 (I still don't understand why). I sadly haven't been back to Chico since :(
¿ BUMMING IT 95-01: After college, I bummed around doing lots of different odd jobs (delivering muffins, sales, Franklin Templeton investments)... boring!
¿ GOT MARRIED 99: Met my future husband while delivering muffins in 96. Moved to his home state of Minnesota and got married there in 99. More bum jobs and secretarial work.
¿ MORE SCHOOL 01-08: Med school in MN 2001-2005. Family Medicine residency training 2005-2008. Being 'forced' to finally start real life and get a 'real' job fall 08 :)
¿ CHILD(REN): Son "Ely" born Jan 2005 (named after a town in Northern MN). Need one more :)
¿ TRAVEL: Along the way, I've been fortunate to do some interesting traveling to Thailand, Mexico, Europe (Holland, France, England, Norway, Germany), Alaska, Hawaii. Need to get to India, since my husband is 1/2 Indian, and he has a lot of family there. Still want to see more of the US, too.
CURRENT INTERESTS:
¿ CHANGE IS GOOD: If you've read this far, then I want you to know that ... I think that I've changed a lot since high school - like everyone, right? :) I've become a lot more sociable, less ego-centric, very interested in what others have experienced and what they think. I'm still as competitive as all get up, but a lot tamer about it (and I finally realized how freakin' annoying it can be to hang around someone as competitive as me!) I'm still a huge nerd, but at least I've branched out and become a little sophisticated on some issues ;)

ve, but have a plenty of conservative minded friends that help keep me grounded.
¿ BWCA: I love the outdoors and exploring them with family and friends. We especially like to go "up north" (northern MN) to an area called the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). It's >1 million acres of wilderness (no motors allowed) made up of lakes that you must travel by canoe and portage (carry) the canoe between lakes. You can escape there for days to months (or I'm sure years if someone wants to brave the winter).
¿ GARDENING: I also love gardening. We have a small yard in St. Paul, MN but I found room for a full garden and a raspberry patch. Our son loves picking raspberries.
¿ cooking, wine, travel, music/concerts (most recently Black Crowes, Gary Louris of the Jayhawks, Aerosmith, Tom Petty), movies.
¿ GOPHER MEN'S BASKETBALL - IT'S TUBBY TIME!! Gopher sports in general. The opening of the new outdoor football stadium is coming Fall 2009 against Cal!! A bunch of our Cal alum friends are coming to MN for the opener.
¿ AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (AMA): I'm very active in the AMA, especially as relates to politics and lobbying for patient rights and access to healthcare, especially for underserved populations.
FOR THE FUTURE:
¿ gotta have the 2nd child :) sometime soon before I really start getting old.
¿ Would like to build a cabin 'up north' some day.
¿ Don't know if we'll always stay in MN, but for now we'll be here.
¿ Maybe someday we'll have a home a little outside of the metro area where we can have horses - I miss riding. We used to have a cat & dog, but both have passed and we will surely get new ones some day soon.
¿ I would like to see a lot more of the country and world.
¿ I hope to very soon attend the Gophers in the Final Four. And I can't wait for the Gophers to play Cal September 2009 in our new open-air stadium.
¿ Can¿t wait to reconnect with everyone for our 20th reunion summer 2009
