stephen's Story

i have been fortunate to have been able to do all the things in life that i have wanted and was blessed with 3 wonderful daughters, a incredible career and financial independence. i started out as a hair dresser, trained in new york to be a hair colorist and ended up by the time i was 30 as one of the top 5 hair colorist in philadelphia. at 28 i decided to go back to college and finish my degree and graduated 3 rd in my class when i was 31, i have owned 36 houses, posed for playgirl magazine when i was 41 [my wife sent in a picture of me as a joke, and i said they would never put a grandfather in there, i was wrong, at the time my grandson was 4, they called me a week later to ask me to pose for the magazine and paid me well for it] i retired at the age of 42 and decided to pursue being in the entertainment industry and was involved in the entertainment industry for 8 yrs as a writer/producer which involved a lot of flying between here and los angeles and when my youngest daughter became seriously ill, was hospitalized for a month and almost died, i left the entertainment industry and came back to philadelphia, that was 4 yrs ago. my daughter, thank god, survived an illness that almost took her life but now she is healthy and doing well. when i came back here 4 years ago i decided to pursue my first love which was photography and now i am a professional photographer [after high school i originally went to school to be a photographer but did not pursue it at that time], you can see my work at stephanimages.webs.com if you click on males i am pics 9 thru 12 and 15 and 16 [they are all self portraits as is the one on this site]. in 2011, i won as lead emerging photographer from philadelphia, have had 7 shows and have won 3 out of 3 juried competitions, and now i am planning on moving to southern california this coming year. i have had many opportunities that i never could have imagined and consider myself quite fortunate to have traveled this entire country, only 2 states i have not been in, i have been to europe and have been to hawaii 11 times and would love to end up there. i have been financially successful and have done things that i never thought imaginable and i can honestly say...Expand for more
that RHS never prepared me for. and yes i have had bad things happen to me also, it has not all been a bed of roses but i have always believed there is nothing you cannot achieve if you put your mind to it and are willing to work hard to get it. my experience at ridley high school made me all the more determined to escape this place, it was not the best experience i ever had and going there only made me more determined not to be like the people i went to school with, i considered that to probably be the worst experience of my life and could not wait for it to be over. it took me a little while to figure out what direction to go [i do not think that experience called high school prepared me at all for the world i was about to enter] but once i got on the right path, i realized that me and only me was responsible for what happened in my life and that realization made me realize that anything was possible. i was put down, made fun of because i was different than my classmates and that somehow they were better than me, i now wondered what happened to all those who thought they were so high and mighty. i owned recovery houses for people in recovery from drugs and alcohol and actually had several of my class mates as clients, and have heard various stories over the years, it is interesting how the mighty have fallen. i have no hard feelings about those days because that was what gave me the determination and courage to escape that hell hole known as ridley township and thank god i did. when you are going threw high school you don't think it will ever end, but it does and there is a much larger world out there then you realize and it is yours for the taking, the sad part about high school is it really does not prepare you for what lies ahead. but i consider myself fortunate that i was able to escape ridley and find out that there is a world who accepts you for who you are and does not judge you because you don't fit some crazy mold or idea of what they think you should be. i have met some incredible people in my life who did not judge me because i am not just like them but accept me for who i am. while going threw high school i never thought those kind of people existed but thank god they do.
