Steve's Story
Life
My wife Janyce and I currently live in Lake Arrowhead Ca., in the San Bernardino mountains, about an hour east of Los Angeles on your way to Palm Springs. We also have a home in Pasadena literally across the street from Cal Tech. Arrowhead however is our primary residence. We have 5 children, two boys and three girls. Our oldest son Jason lives in 5 minutes away from us, and has two daughters. Our Oldest daughter Alicia has two children, a boy and a girl and lives in Pasadena. She is an RN and works with premature babies. Our son Paul is actually a very successful artist and travels frequently around the world. We have two younger daughters, Caitlin is a registered clinical dietician, married and living in Ventura Ca. near the beach., and Hayley is an M.D. living in Las Vegas. She married another doctor she went to medical school with and they have two children. Janyce and I met in high school (her maiden name was Scribner). So far (54 years) it seems to be working out.
Professionaly, I retired about a year ago from Dignity Health. I was the senior VP for Operations in So Cal. Before that, I was the President and CEO of St Bernardine Medical Center in San Bernardino CA. St B's is...Expand for more
a large regional tertiary medical center, especially well known for it's heart, neurosciences and orthopedic programs. Over the years I have been the president of several large, well know hospitals in San Jose, Santa Barbara and Santa Monica . My first hospital was St Lukes Memorial in Spokane Washington (back when it was still an acute care hospital). I have also served on the boards of trustees for a number of large organizations ranging from medical insurance companies to research foundations. I was a founding board member of two large HMO's serving Medicaid patients in California. I am frequently invited to speak/lecture at seminars and other professional meetings. I am also published in various professional journals, and quoted often in the media as an expert on health issues. I am a former the board chair of various regions of the CA Hospital Association. I was also an officer on the executive committee of the CA Hospital Association. I like my work and find it very rewarding.. As an update, I got bored with retirement after about 7 months and am currently managing a hospital district near Palm Springs.
I would love to hear from any of my former classmates, or professional alumni.
