Steve's Story
Life
I have the unfortunate news of sharing with you that I was diagnosed with cancer on June 2, 2009. I have Multiple Myeloma - a blood cancer. I am in Stage 3. This condition has caused my kidneys to fail, which has also cause high blood pressure. There is no cure only treatment to extend my life.
Fortunately the Lord has Blessed me with an outstanding team of doctors. I have started chemotherapy already. The next 6 months will be a tough journey. I am scheduled for a Stem Cell Transplant in the fall in addition to a very aggressive chemotherapy treatment during that time.
Please pray for me - more importantly for my family and 3 young children. Thank you and God Bless.
The year 2005 has blessed us with a beautiful baby girl.
Military
Entered basic training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas in Oct 1980. Trained at the Security Police Academy Dec 1980 to Feb 1981. Received Honor Graduate (Top 5) certificate from the Academy Feb 2, 1981.
My first tour of duty was Peterson AFB, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Met a lot of great people there and hoping to connect with them through here. Worked as Patrolman, Desk Sgt, Armorer, and NCOIC of the Elite Distinguished Visitors section. Was fortunate enough to work for one of the "coolest" Generals ever - Gen. James V. Hartinger Commander in Chief of NORAD. I am honored to have been in the presence of Pres. Ronald Reagan, Vice-Pres. George Bush, and Sen. Barry Goldwater, and had the pleasure of meeting Gen. Chuck Yeager and other dignitaries while stationed at Pete Field. I experienced three command changes. The third being the birth of the 1001st Space Command. I Enjoyed my time in Colorado hiking, biking, and climbing. I miss the sight of Pikes Peak every morning. Anybody know whatever happened to Dway...Expand for more
ne "Bullet" Bennett, Erikson, Hochholdinger, Dave Shear, Jeff Rawson, Dave Leighton (K-9), Bjorkawitz, DeJohns, Bogoslovski, Siscineros, Mark Waltemathe or anyone else from that time? Thanks to Tom and Malinda Hess for responding back to me.
I re-enlisted in 1984 and received orders shortly thereafter for RAF Bentwaters, England. I arrived May 1985 and began work for the 81st Security Police Squadron. This was a joint assignment with police responsibilities for both RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge. I got to say this was one hell of a tour. With a lot of memories to boot. I can't continue on without mentioning two great individuals. My partner in crime Sgt Jerry Jolly and my mentor who kept me in line MSgt James A. Patrick. It's hard to imagine my time over there without either one of them. My time there went by quick. I studied a lot and finished my Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering Technologies with Southern Illinois University (GO SALUKI's). We were a support base for the Libyan Air Strike and stayed on alert and 12 hour shifts for most of the time. I worked as Patrolman, Desk Sgt, Flight Chief, and Operations. Anybody seen or heard from Lou Grubbs, BJ Bunce, Beeson, Valejo, Dave Thailing, Knight, Dave Narrcis, Linneman, Hauge or anyone else from that time?
In April 1988 I separated under the early out program and returned back to Ohio.
Just to give you an idea of how small the world is. I was on a business trip in the Summer of 1997 returning from Germany. I was coming through Customs at the Detroit International Airport and who do you think is working a K-9 drug dog around our luggage - Tim Spitler. Wow! It had been 9 years since I left RAF Bentwaters and seen Tim and just like that I run into him. Hey Tim drop a line some time.
