Steve's Story

After high school, (1971), I went straight to Mich. State as a music major on scholarship....in love with a girl, Michelle Geoffroy of South Bend, I met on an European music tour, (American Youth Symphony and Chorus, based out of Duquesne Univ. in Pittsburgh),...I was a happy freshman....Ultimately changed majors to Hotel, Restaurant Mgt. hoping to combine a business degree with music somehow., In Jan. '73, I met someone else, Connie Corona, also originally from South Bend, but now from Ann Arbor, that I eventually married and it lasted 32 years...no kids, just work and lots of vacation travel.......restaurant mgt., general contracting and music in Silicon Valley......Mountain View, CA for 27 years...I now live in Sedona, AZ and play music full time, organize and arrange music for events.... recent article about one of the bands I'm in check Kudos on line in AZ Fortunate to have reconnected with my high school band director, Mr. William B. Watts....musical mentor of immeasurable importance who now lives in Florida at 87 years old, also a CC grad (1940). Following a year on the road with a band right out of college....The John Mallon Show, I ended up working for Love's Wood Pit Barbecue in Beverly Hills on Pico Blvd where they use to film Starsky and Hutch and Charlie's Angel's right across the street. That lasted a year. I was transferred to the Bay Area and ended up running the Santa Clara store then was promoted to kind of a troubleshooting relief manager and ultimately to district manager overseeing 9 stores, including Sacramento and Fresno. Love's was part of IHOP and was bought out by a German Chicken magnate who reorganized the company....all of us were let go. Next stop was Saga Foods where I was put in charge of the B of A Data Center at 11th and Market in San Francisco...taking BART to work at 5:30 in the morning for a year. 5000 people in that building to feed breakfast and lunch to 5 days a week. Then Atari opened up in Sunnyvale and I was put in charge of that....52 buildings with 7000 Atari workers, 7 food service outlets....tough account to run....have some great friends to this day from that short lived 2 year experience.....one is Kendra Stevenson, now living with her husband Alan in the woods west of Reno....great lady. After 8 years of food service, I had had enough and decided to put my love of construction and remodeling to the test. My wife and I bought a house that I gutted and remodeled completely...ah. a new career. I got my General Contractor's license and we did a bunch of buy, fix and sell properties then when the market shifted in about 1989, I started doing it for my wi...Expand for more
fe's clients. Specializing in selling/listing Eichler Homes, I became a specialist in the home as well. It was a great partnership.... I had a very successful career as a high end remodeling contractor while my wife was a real estate broker...we were a good team. Our marriage ran it's course and with no hard feelings after 32 years we split amicably. She's now happy and living in Hawaii with a new man and new life....I'm happy in Sedona with a new lady friend in Mesa which is down in the Phoenix area. Still in touch with a number of friends from college and the Sigma Chi Fraternity, one of the best things I ever did.......many who are entertainers/musicians that I am still in touch with......namely Rick Reuther in Grand Rapids and Mark Geovjian in East Lansing. Rick owns Host Productions and Mark, Melting Moments Ice Cream. Both are very successful. I get mail from all the alumni organizations....MSU, Sigma Chi, (life loyal member), and my high school, now in it's Novi location on 60 acres of donated land and a state of the art college prep school of unreal academic and athletic accomplishments. I have always had a soft spot for 2 wonderful girls I met in elementary/junior high.....and found them through this site....Mimi Luckham from Bentley High and Leigh Walsh from Churchill . I went on to a private all boys Catholic H.S., Detroit Cath. Central and lost touch with both of them....but even now at 56, well, we're all 56, I remember their birthdays....funny how that works.... Easy to find a lot about me on Google or Yahoo....just punch in Steve Douglas, Sedona and Music and wade through the pages....it's unreal how much press there's been for all the concerts I've produced and public performances, plus I'm a commissioner for the City of Sedona Arts and Culture Commission, I also volunteer 4 mornings a week at the local high school for the music kids, teach classes for OLLI, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute...Jazz History, American 20th Century Pop Music and a course on the Beatles....and try to raise money for the many non-profits we have here. Life is pretty good...I'm basically retired from the first phase, 30+ years of working way too hard and too many hours and not cultivating friends the way I should have.... Now I play music with who and when I when I want and do some small remodeling projects when they come up. Sedona has a lot of creative energy and I'm swallowed up in it big time....plus it's one of the most beautiful places on earth. I'm fortunate to be able to spend 5 weeks or so every Jan/Feb on Kauai and live in Sedona....2 spectacular places...inspiring and relaxing at the same time.
