Steve's Story

Its been quite a journey since graduation. In the early 80's I moved to the Chicago suburb of Lombard to go to Devry, what a waste of time and money that was. On the bright side I met my wife there. After we were married we lived in Naperville, IL. (western Chicago suburb) where I continued to work as a Mechanic. I got tired go the grease, so we sold our home in Naperville and moved to Normal, IL. (my wife's hometown) and I went back to school at Illinois State University. I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice Science. Before graduation I was hired by the Springfield IL. Police Department on July 15, 1991. I went to the Illinois State Police Academy for my basic training. I graduated from the academy as class 400-34 Valedictorian. I had a great career at SPD. I started out in Patrol like all Rookies do. After working the streets, I was promoted to Detective. I spent my time as Detective assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration as a Task Force Agent. I enjoyed my time for the 4 years I was with the DEA. I had to leave the DEA when I was Promoted Sergeant. As a Sgt. I supervised Officers on the afternoon shift until I was assigned ...Expand for more
as Sgt. of Pro Active Crime Unit, which was a fancy name for the drug unit. After about four years as a Sergeant I was promoted to Lieutenant. I started out as a Lt. as a shift Commander until one day I got called to the Chiefs office and was told I was being assigned to Internal Affairs. I spent about 4 or 5 years in IA before being transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division. After a short time there I pulled the plug and retired on October 3, 2011. After a short stint at a small town P.D. I went to work for the State of Illinois. I started at the IL. Dept. of Revenue as a call taker answering questions about taxes. I then went to the Office of Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor as Supervising Investigator. After about a year at OEIG I went back to the Department of Revenue as Chief of Internal Affairs. That was a sworn position which meant I was carrying a badge and a gun again. After about four years I resigned from IDOR and Moved to Murrells Inlet, SC. Murrells Inlet is about ten miles south of Myrtle Beach. Now I'm back in Illinois, living Bloomington. My only jobs now are mowing the lawn and shoveling snow.
