Steven's Story
Life
Major (Ret'd) Steven D. GASSER, CD, B.Eng., M.E.Des (URP), P. Eng., originally hails from Kimberley, BC. Steven and his family moved to Calgary where he graduated from Forest Lawn High School in May 1974.
He joined the Canadian Forces on 10 August 1974, inducted directly into the Regular Officer Training Programme (ROTP) at Calgary, AB. He first attended Royal Roads Military College (RRMC), Victoria, BC; and subsequently graduated from the Royal Military College (RMC) Kingston, ON in May 1979, with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering. In 1989, he was selected for Post Graduate Training and accepted at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Environmental Design, in the Urban and Regional Planning Programme. He received his Masters' Degree in May 1992.
Upon graduation from RMC, Steven joined the Canadian Military Engineers. Steven has extensive experience both in combat and construction engineering. the United Nations Canadian Contingent Cyprus as Engineer Troop Commander. StevenÃÂÃÂs last posting was as Commanding Officer of the 1 Construction Engineering Unit (CEU) Works & Design Company, a 15-person specialist-engineering unit, in Bosnia-Herzegovina under NATOÃÂÃÂs Stabilisation Force.
Upon returning to Canada in June 1998, he accepted the position of Director of Environmental Services with the Town of Banff, AB. He officially retired from the Canadian Forces on 3 September 1998. In May 2004 Steven became employed as Assistant Deputy Minister of Public Works for the Government of Yukon, in Whitehorse. He was responsible for the Property Management Agency and overseeing all building maintenance and capital development for the government's buildings.
In December 2008 Steven accepted the position of Associate Vice President Facilities Management at the University of Calgary. He is responsible for all operations and maintenance, real estate, utilities and capital asset management functions.
Steven has a daughter Cassandra living with her mother in NS.
