Steven's Story
Post HS Life:
1974: Graduated from Chatham High School (barely);
1974: Entered Danville Community College (DCC);
1977: Dropped out of DCC;
1975-77: Worked at Dan River Mills;
1977: Accepted management position in Richmond, VA sporting goods store;
1979: Began taking classes at John Tyler Community College (JTCC) in Chester, VA;
1980: Moved back home and re-entered DCC;
1982: Graduated from DCC with dual degrees in Engineering and Business Administration;
1982: Transferred to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA;
1985: Received BSEE from LSU;
1985: Accepted an engineering position at IIT Research Institute in Annapolis, MD - primary projects/responsibilities: NWS/NOAA NEXRAD Weather Radar network and FAA Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) network EMC analyses, NASA shuttle telemetry link budget analyses;
1987: Married a local MD girl - Mary Ann Folks;
1987: Mary Ann graduates from UMD with BSRN degree;
1987: First child (Natalie) is born;
1988: Second child (Nick) is born;
1990: Bought first home in Gambrills, MD
1991: Entered Johns Hopkins University (JHU) night school;
1996: Received MSCS from JHU;
1998: Appointed to US Department of Commerce (DOC) National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) - primary projects/responsibilities: DoD Radar interference, DoD Global Positioning System (GPS) modernization, regulatory changes to accommodate initial Ultra-Wideband (UWB) communications and Radar introduction;
1998: Built custom home in Gambrills, MD;

2001: Transferred to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Laboratory in Columbia, MD - primary projects/responsibilities: UWB, civilian GPS, WiFi technologies, telecommunications networks (2G-5G/voice and data), vehicular radar, radio frequency (RF) measurement techniques and procedures, Chair of ANSI C63.26 RF measurement standards committee; FCC representative to multiple ANSI and 3GPP standards committees;
2004: Mary Ann graduates with MSN degree from Bowie State University;
2004: Named again to US Delegation to ITU in Geneva, Switzerland, this time from FCC;
2005: Natalie graduates from HS and enters University of Maryland (UMD);
2006: Nick graduates from HS and joins USCG;
2006: Natalie joins MD Air National Guard - MOS is chief mechanic on A-10 Warthog;
2007: Natalie deployed to Iraq (Al Assad AFB);
2009: Natalie accepts appointment to USAF Academy;
2013: Natalie graduates from UMD with dual BS degrees in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering
2013: Natalie accepts appointment to the Department of the Navy at Patuxent River Naval Air Station
2014: Natalie weds in September
2018: First grandson born: Ethan James Campbell
2019: Nick accepts appointment to Department of Navy at Indian Head, MD
2020: Wuhan flu forces work-from-home mandate
2021: Second grandson born: Graham Steven Campbell
2021: Construction begun on new home in Hollywood, MD
2021: Moved into new single-story home to "age in place"
2023: Hung up the cleats and retired from Federal service on 12/31
2024: Third grandson born on 1/1: 'Adam Nicholas Campbell'
