Post HS Life: 1974: Graduated from Chatham High School (barely); 1974: Entered Danville Community College (DCC); 1977: Dropped out of DCC; 1975-77: Worked at Dan River Mills; 1977: Accepted management position in Richmond, VA sporting goods store; 1979: Began taking classes at John Tyler Community College (JTCC) in Chester, VA; 1980: Moved back home and re-entered DCC; 1982: Graduated from DCC with dual degrees in Engineering and Business Administration; 1982: Transferred to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA; 1985: Received BSEE from LSU; 1985: Accepted an engineering position at IIT Research Institute in Annapolis, MD - primary projects/responsibilities: NWS/NOAA NEXRAD Weather Radar network and FAA Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) network EMC analyses, NASA shuttle telemetry link budget analyses; 1987: Married a local MD girl - Mary Ann Folks; 1987: Mary Ann graduates from UMD with BSRN degree; 1987: First child (Natalie) is born; 1988: Second child (Nick) is born; 1990: Bought first home in Gambrills, MD 1991: Entered Johns Hopkins University (JHU) night school; 1996: Received MSCS from JHU; 1998: Appointed to US Department of Commerce (DOC) National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) - primary projects/responsibilities: DoD Radar interference, DoD Global Positioning System (GPS) modernization, regulatory changes to accommodate initial Ultra-Wideband (UWB) communications and Radar introduction; 1998: Built custom home in Gambrills, MD; 2000: Named to U.S. Delegation to International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in Geneva, Switzerlan...Expand for more
