Steven's Story
Life
After graduating from Central in 1972, I got my A.S. degree from Mesa College in 1974 and by B.S. degree from Colorado State University in 1976. I attended University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver and got my M.D. in 1980. I completed a five year residency in general surgery at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas) in 1985 then a two year residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (Charleston) in 1987. I then completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiac surgery at Boston Children's Hospital-Harvard Medical School in 1988. Since that time I have practiced pediatric cardiac surgery, first at Children's Medical Center of Dallas (1988-2009) and now at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Chilren in Denver (2009 - present).
In 1981 I married Janet Krieger in Irving, Texas. She was a nurse working at Parkland Memorial Hospital where I was serving my residency. We have four chilren: Rebekah (1983), Mark (1986)...Expand for more
, Andrew (1989), and Julie (1990). We currently live in Highlands Ranch, which is a suburb of Denver..
I have not been able to attend any reunions, but would like to in the future. I would love to hear from any of you.
School
I attended Durango High School for my sophomore and junior years. I attended Grand Junction Central High School for my senior year. I really enjoyed high school. I then went to Mesa College for two years and Colorado State University for two years (pre-med). After graduation from college I went straight into medical school. I never took any time off (other than summers) since I wanted to get into my career as quickly as possible.
Workplace
I worked as a pediatric cardiac surgeon at Children's Medical Center of Dallas for 22 years. I was in private practice for 15 years then joined the faculty of University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2002. In 2009 I relocated to Denver and now practice at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.
