Susan's Story

Life Biography for Susan Clark Largo High School graduating class of 1962 After graduating from LHS, I attended St. Petersburg Junior College for two years and then went on to the University of Florida where I cheered the Gators on for two years and obtained my Bachelor of Arts of Education preparing to teach elementary school. After my student teaching experience of trying to get 1st graders to stay in their seats, I decided that being a stewardess and traveling the world might be a better option. Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) actually came to the campus and interviewed students trying to recruit flight attendants that might speak a language other than English (they required all stewardesses to be fluent in a language other than English). Although to this day, I still can't speak Spanish, my 2 years of study at LHS and a year of college Spanish seem to convince the interviewers that I might be able to learn. I was hired with the promise to go to language school to learn to make announcements in Spanish. Following stewardess training school in Miami, I flew off to a place I had dreamed of living for years - San Francisco - and stayed there most of my life. It was 1966- the time of Haight-Asbury and the "Flower children". San Francisco was truly glorious in those days - an incredible town with unparalleled beauty. I didn't become a hippie, but it was an interesting time in history. As a stewardess for Pam Am stationed in San Francisco, I flew mostly over the Pacific and laid over in great places like Hawaii, Toyko, Taipei, Hong Kong, Sydney, Manila and Bangkok on a regular basis. We also flew over the pole to London and down to Panama City. This was at the height of the Viet Nam war and we also did ...Expand for more
R & R flights in and out of Viet Nam, never staying overnight thank goodness! At the end of two years living out of a suitcase literally, I decided it was time for me to save the world and enter the world of education that I had been trained for. I gave up my wings and applied for a job as an elementary school teacher. I ended up teaching school for eighteen years in the San Francisco Unified Schools and obtained my Masters in Educational Technology at San Francisco State University. In those years I did the typical things . . . I lived and loved, bought a house, remodeled a house, traveled to faraway places and places not so far away. Two places I loved to go were Napa Valley and Carmel. After taking a sabbatical one year, I discovered I was missing some of life by staying within four walls everyday so after teaching the two more years I owed the school district for my sabbatical, I took a leave and started selling real estate. I had been managing property for a few years while I was teaching as a second job to help support my mortgage and found I really liked real estate. Twenty years later . . . and I am still selling real estate and still love it. I met my husband while selling him a house in San Francisco. When Allan took early retirement from being a civilian lawyer for the Navy eleven years ago, we could live anywhere we wanted to so we chose the Monterey Peninsula, which we had grown to love on our many trips here. We have a home in Pacific Grove, a little historic seaside town that we love, and my real estate office, Alain Pinel Realtors, is in Carmel, which many of you may have visited. I sell lovely homes in Carmel, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove, Monterey, and surrounding areas. Life is good!
