Susan's Story
Life
Being from a military family,I attended many schools in Santa Ana & 29 Palms CA, Salem OR, graduating from Oceanside High,CA. Lived in lovely Tulsa OK, graduating from Univ of Tulsa; now in the St Louis area. Life is great - love my job as a parish administrator. Keep busy with family & friends, a reading circle, Prayer Shawl group, took up drumming, cooking for anyone or any group, lead a bible study and dogsit for friends. Have a great guy in my life and as long as it isn't icy, I'm happy!
School
Yes, I was one of THOSE who loved school but I hated changing to new schools. Favorite teachers - Miss Wilson, Mrs. Hilts, Mr. George (in 29 Palms); my sophomore English teacher at South Salem High (whose name temporarily escapes me) who had us writing essays, week in and week out, so that we could write a cogent essay; Mr. Long and Dr. Estes from Oceanside High. If you ever had Dr. Estes for Civics - you know what I mean! Most fun was the all school luau we had at John Adams Elementary in Santa Ana when Hawaii became a state -- and the Saturday movies the parents club showed with Francis the Talk...Expand for more
ing Mule and the old Ma & Pa Kettle movies (popcorn was 10 cents)! And, of course, dancing lessons at Oasis Elementary in 29 Palms with Mrs. Williams -- life was never the same for us once we learned the two-step, the waltz and the cha-cha!
Never stop learning or it's no longer a life worth living!!
College
First thoughts of TU - meeting lots of people from all over and finding friends for life - we still laugh til we cry over so many things!!! And a great education where they cared about us - Thanks TU!
Second thoughts of TU - exploring life and meeting people from all over the world - thanks to Mrs. Edith Sidwell & the International Student Office; people from so many religious backgrounds, and discovering that not everyone came from a close family. Also, finding support at so many levels when my father died - from the administration to girls in the dorm & sorority to my 'second family' in Hominy, OK! Oh, and discovering why guys were always stopping us on the way into the 'U-Totem' - to get beer that girls could buy at 18 -- but not 'possess'!! Go figure - it was Oklahoma in the late 60's!
