Susan's Story

My life has a superb cast, now if I could just figure out the plot! I was born a California girl. I lived in Los Angeles until the summer before third grade when we moved to Vacaville. I went to Ulatis, Jepson, Will C. Wood H.S. and Vacaville H.S. I was a lifeguard and swim instructor for the City of Vacaville for ten years. Working with my friends, teaching swimming and getting paid to get a tan, it was a great job! After high school, I went to Solano Community College for two years. Manuel Ruedas and I dated there. I transfered to U.C. Davis where I graduated with a degree in English. I did my student teaching there and after a year of substitute teaching and a year of teaching in a private school, I began my teaching career in Vacaville in a fourth grade classroom at Hemlock School. During my years of teaching, I taught every grade but 1st and 2nd, and I was also a music specialist for two years at Padan School. I left there to teach at Callison Elementary School. In 2000, I went back to Sonoma State College and earned my preliminary administrative credential. I became the assistant principal at Callison in 2001. After a year there, I was transferred to Cooper School--a large year round elementary school. I decided to get my clear administrative credential and a master's in educational leadership. I graduated from Sonoma State in 2003 and became the...Expand for more
principal of Cooper School in 2005. Ready for a different quality of life, I applied for a principal's job in Walnut Creek in 2007. I am now the principal of Indian Valley School in WC. It's a small school (only 476 students) with a view of Mt. Diablo from the playground. I love the change. I am now commuting, but it's worth it! I love my little school. Divorced in 1995 after seventeen years of marriage, I have two amazing, wonderful daugthers: Marissa and Breanna. They are 29 and 25 respectively, married and almost married, both to terrific guys! I'm currently not dating anyone, but if the right person came along, I'd be interested. Although life hasn't always been easy, I feel my life has been blessed with a great deal of love and happiness. "I have to say it now, it's been a good life all in all..." as John Denver once said. I am so thankful for the amazing people who have been a part of my life. I wish any of you who read this blue skies and sunshine days. Drop me an email and tell me what you've been doing. Smiles, Susan If you're here from University High School...I signed up for that group for my mom, Frances Mattson. She is a very talented violinist who graduated from Universty High School in 1942 or 1943. If you'd like to contact her, send me an email. She's not online because she is saving her eyes to read music.
