Susan's Story
Life
My Husband and I married in 1985 and just celebrated 24 years together. He is orginally from Hartland but we met in College(wrestler). We have 2 girls 15 and 10 and we live on 2 acres out in country just east of Bay Harbor and have a beautiful view of the bay coming off our street. My husband is in the horticultural industry and our neighbors are Doug and Cyndy Stoos(Shelton)LHS78&79. I play tenis on a team and we are getting ready for our State Tournament in Grand Rapids. My husband is currently recovering from a torn achilles, so he's not very mobile . He and I meet at therapy 2 x aweek, since I'm recovering from achilles tendon problems also. We love our Therapists. My oldest daughter is a budding writer and has had a some contact with classmate Steve Hamilton(Alex McKnight mystery novels) LHS 79. She is also a softball player and played for the High School team this spring, she is also a member of the Petoskey Marching Northmen(saxophone). I spend my fall traveling around the state watching them compete. My youngest has also become invovled in tennis, soccer and softball, so I been privileged to coach her in tennis and softball and have a blast because the emphasis has been the basics and I can handle that. Our winter activities include snowboarding and s...Expand for more
kiing at Boyne Highlands. I even take my 4-8th graders during the winter for ski lessons from the Austrians. We love living in the North, Even though a view by the bay is half the pay. Hey, this winter I took a job through Boyne, I'm working as Host at the Highlands, so if your in the area skiing look me up I'm there every Sunday during the season. It's a great place to ski and stay.
Workplace
After I graduated from College, I went home to look for a teaching position, my future husband was living in Holland MI, and had no luck, I subsitute taught and coached Basketball with George Hisch, 9th grade Volleyball with Dave Montgomery and Assisted Kent Griffiths with softball for 2 years at Lakeland, it was fun and rewarding and sometimes frustrating. I got married in 1985 and moved to Holland and went back to school at Grand Valley and got my Athletic Trainer certificate and became the Asst. Trainer at Holland H.S. and then went to Holland West Ottawa until 1998, I'm now the Physical education teacher and Athletic Director employed in the Petoskey Public school system teaching P.E. in a K-8 Catholic School called St. Francis Xavier School.
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right.
