Susan's Story
School
I was secretly ga-ga about the bad boys. (At least, I think it was a secret. Hm.) ... At Kennedy, I was what kids today would call one of the losers. I hated school, but I had some good times, like singing "Take Me Home, Country Roads" for a concert. ... That block scheduling was not good for me. I didn't even make it through 9th grade. ... At Lakeside, John Calderwood was the best history teacher ever! ... Remember when we rioted and blocked the door to the office with a pile of chairs during a staff meeting, and "John Enamel" climbed out of a window to negotiate? Anybody wonder why the neighbors hated us? ... Remember the burger place up the street? ... How about the trip to the Feather River and the one to Point Reyes? ... Would YOU send YOUR kids to Lakeside???
College
Jenkins First! The girls' end of the dorm. They put something like seven Susans in that one section, and we all started out having to share the pay phone in the hall. r own phones. ... CSUS politics -- what a nightmare! ... Getting married in college -- HUGE mistake! Got a wonderful daughter out of it though, and living at College Town was like living in Mayberry, only edgier. OK, a lot edgier. But it was great having all those families right there to help each other out with babysitting, play dates, car emergencies, etc. Those were lean times, but good times in many ways. Well, except for the bad marriage. But that's history.
Workplace
I'm a retired stay-at-home mom, now volunteering for Friends of the Sacramento Public Library. Hubby retired in 2009 & we celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2012. My mom passed in 2010 after a very long battle with Parkinson's Disease, so life was pretty intense for a while. ... We live simply -- small house, one car -- and we love it. I did inherit the family cabin, so that's the big luxury in our lives. It's also why we're down to one car! ... Disabled by Crohn's Disease since age 14 (9th grade), I have to keep things low key. Working full time is not an option, but volunteering keeps me busy and feeling needed now that Daughter is grown.
