Susan's Story
Life
I'm enjoying life in the big city! I'm happy to say that I have a wide circle of friends who mean the world to me, and wonderful relatives, too. My sister has five grandchildren, whom I adore. The oldest, Jazmyn, will be celebrating her Bat Mitzvah this coming July. The whole family will be gathering for the party.
School
Growing up and going to school in Orchard Park, NY was a wonderful experience. It was, and is, a beautiful place, and the people are warm and friendly.
I attended the old Lincoln Elementary school in the center of town back in the early 1970s. My fondest memory is of kickball games in the playground!
I was at the Baker Road school back when it was still a Junior High. So, when they remodeled it and converted it to the high school I ended up going to the same place from grades seven through twelve. The House system, with a Principal on each floor, took some getting used to at first! But it was such a big school that syste...Expand for more
m actually helped personalize the situation since faculty had a smaller group of students to work with. And it was pretty cool being in class with the same kids I'd known since Kindergarten!
College
Attending Texas Womans University was my first experience living away from home. My mother traveled on business, so I usually only got to take the bus home every other weekend or so.
My fondest memory of dorm life was participating in the Student Council as the Publicity Chairperson.
Workplace
I entered Government service because it was a very secure career choice. But I found my calling once I got there, and I really enjoy what I do.
Military
Two of my three nephews served in the Marines in Desert Storm back in the early nineties. They both came home; one is now a partner in a law firm, the other an officer in the Coast Guard. In case you're wondering, their baby brother is an intern at a record company in California. I am one proud auntie!
