Susan's Story
Life
Hi everyone! After highschool, I worked two jobs for a year before going to California to go to college. I was there for a year with the intention of becoming a disc jockey! I actually did some broadcasting while I was there but found there were so many other things I was interested in. As I was paying for college myself, I ended up only staying there for a year.
I came back to VA and went to NOVA part time while working full time from 1989 until 1995, when I got married.
I met William at work. I was a waitress and he was a busboy. We were working at Western Sizzlin in Alexandria. We got married in October of 95, and started a family right away! We have three beautiful kids, Ruby (born in 96), Mick (born in 98) and Jade (born in 2000).
We stopped having kids and started having animals after moving to the country in 2002. We had one dog when we moved here and we adopted two more, then a pregnant dog found us. We started fostering dogs that year. We pulled dogs f...Expand for more
rom shelters and brought them in our home, housebroke them and socialized them until a rescue group or a permanant home could be found. We helped about sixty dogs make it off death row in about three years.
When we bought our house, we had to stop doing animal rescue. We had aquired too many dogs (six!!!) and our house is just too small! We are hoping to build onto the house eventually so that we have more room for the growing kids and maybe have the space to foster dogs again! We have an acre, just not enough house space!
I spent most of the kids younger years trying to find the perfect stay at home mom job. I delivered newspapers for a while and did a lot of waitressing! About four years ago, I started working at an animal hospital. I figured with all the pets, I needed a discount on their vetcare! I truly love working with animals, so I am wondering why I didn't do this sooner! I might go back to school to become a licensed technician eventually, if I ever find the time.
