Susan's Story
Life
I still have horses. In 1995, I shifted my focus from the show ring and combined training to endurance racing. Time has run short, however, and I no longer have time to train for endurance. I do have a new love in a fabulous Friesian gelding, whom I show.
In 2002, I turned my 35 acre property into a working farm, Alpacas of the Bluegrass, LLC, acquiring my first six alpacas. It's a great family operation, and we have grown to a herd of 55 alpacas. We shear the animals yearly and turn the luxury fiber over to the North American Fiber Cooperative for processing in Peru. In addition to fiber, breeding, and sales, each year we attend about eight alpaca shows around the country. We do well and have brought home some pretty prestigious awards in our time in the business.
In April 2007 I took up motorcycle riding and now ride a BMW R 1200 GS. I am loving every mile. I've traveled Europe twice by motorcycle, and the Great Continental Divide. Wonderful fun. I just added a Ducati Monster 1100 to my line-up...Expand for more
. My two wonderful, grown children think I'm crazy.
I'm married to a fabulous Englishman, and he keeps me laughing and thinking. In 2008, we purchased a vacant church, Circa 1888 in Downtown Louisville. We have renovated it into three residential units with the 1898 Sanctuary becoming a special events venue. We also have a 1/4 acre professionally designed and landscaped garden next door. which is also very popular for parties and weddings. We live in one of the condos now, and have settled comfortably into city life (though I still have the farm ;)
School
I don't think I can ever forget the fun we had at Walden in Mr. Foley's math classes. Turning cartwheels when his back was turned.... sneaking out of class one by one, being EXCUSED from class one by one proclaiming it was raining and the windows were down in our cars! Poor man- just went right on, eventually teaching an empty classroom. Oddly though, I know now somehow that man managed to teach me more about high school math than any other teacher.
