Susan's Story

Life I turned thirty on Feb. 13, 2004. I wound up spending my birthday in labor with our fifth child, Samuel! Baby Sam was born on Valentine's Day, which makes him our little cupid! My husband Jason and I just celebrated eleven years of marriage on May 1, 2004. We have been together twelve years this coming June-we met just out of high school. Jason works at Harman-Becker(Martinsville)in Product Engineering. I am a full time S.A.H.M (stay at home mom). I did attend college, but have kind of put my education on the back burner for now. I do still take classes in my spare time. My major in school is Nursing. I have been trained and certified, by the Indiana State Board of Health, as a Breastfeeding Counselor for the W.I.C. program. My career goal is to become an RN,LC (Lactation Consultant). As I mentioned, we have five children: Joseph 9 1/2 (Sept 27, 1994), Ethan 6 1/2 (Sept 11, 1997), Emma 4 (born Leap Day 2000), Olivia 22 1/2 months (June 26, 2002), and Samuel 2 1/2 mos (Feb 14, 2004). The kids keep us busy, but they are worth it all! It is hard for me to believe that our oldest will start fourth grade this year!! In the twelve years since high school, I have been busy! After marriage, we lived in married student housing in Terre Haute. Later, we bought our first home in Ellettsville. We lived in Ellettsville for 6 1/2 years, and then moved (on a job transfer to Harman, Northridge) to Lancaster, CA. Lancaster is about fifty miles from Los Angel...Expand for more
es, and is located in L.A. county. We lived real close to Edwards AFB, and could hear planes breaking the sound barrier almost daily! Once when the space shuttle landed at Edwards, my oldest son's Kindergarten class got to go outside and see the shuttle as it entered the atmosphere. Joe still talks about that day!! In 2001, we wound up coming home to good ol' Martinsville. My Mother has Multiple Sclerosis and my Dad really needs all the help he can get in taking care of her, so we bought a house just a couple of miles down the road from them. My little sister Carrie and her family, wound up buying a home just down the street from us-in walking distance, too! It is nice to have family so near! Family is my greatest treasure! I guess that is all of the main stuff that has transpired in my life since school! I did fail to mention that a few months after graduation, I was in a really bad car wreck. I was not cut up or anything, but I did break my neck in what's known as a "hangman's fracture". The second vertebrae in my neck was fractured on both sides. A hair more in either direction, and I would have died! I was told that my living through a "hanging",so to speak, was a miracle (I was hung against my seatbelt). I have never stopped being grateful and was baptized within a few months-after getting my halo brace off. Life is a funny thing, you never know where it might take you or where you might end up! Looking forward to connecting with old friends!!!!
