suzanne's Story
After graduating from Redmond High, I took some classes at Bellevue Community College and transferred to the University of Washington for degrees in Pharmacy and Chemical Engineering. I worked as a Nuclear Test Engineer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and retired a couple of years ago. I now have an 85 acre farm on San Juan Island and spend my time between Port Orchard where I live and San Juan Island. I married and am waiting for my husband to retire. I still like bicycling, kayakaing, hiking. My retirement goal is to start a small artesian cidery on San Juan Island. I have several hundred apple trees of different bittersweet varieties and other plants. I taught myself how to graft scionwood and they comprise about 1/3 of my trees. I like nature better than people and I like the solitude/quiet although, abject lonliness is to be avoided. One must maintain balance. There are many deer, eagles, foxes and birds to commune with. I keep busy tending my trees and taking an occasional class. Starting a small business that involves selling alcohol is a challenge! I plan to add a bee hive or two or even a few sheep. irplane hanger. I heat it with a wood and a gas stove at opposite ends of the building. To cool down, I open one set of doors and a window at opposite ends. It has a big deck at one end. Works pretty good with a breeze. I have a large garden. Stuff grows up there like mad. More and more, I just want to get away from the Seattle area and the traffic. Up there it is island time all the time. People are friendly. Life is good.
High School was the beginning. Those days were poignant. Things were secure. My parents were alive, nothing mattered, no worries. We all had hopes and dreams for our future. There is less future now but I hope you all can chase the hopes and dreams that remain to you and find happiness and peace.
I am not in to big gatherings so probably will not attend the reunion. I would attend if we could for just a couple of hours be like we were back then. Now, we have all changed too much. My most cherished memories were bicycling to school with a friend, band, track, and the tennis team. Climbing my first mountain. Having so much energy! If I make it into heaven, I hope it will be with energy and unlimited mountains to climb and blue skys. Blue skys to you all!
