Taaffe's Story
Life
Life is great. I moved to Oregon after high school, got my associates and bachelors degrees in Psychology. I met a lot of cool people while living there. But in 2003 I decided that 7 years in the Pacific Northwest was enough for me and headed back home to California. I decided to pursue my childhood dream of becoming a teacher and found myself in special education. Within the first month of moving to Los Angeles I met my boyfriend who is incredible and is my best friend. Yeah, it took me a few extra years to find the one, but it was worth the wait. Knowing me, I would have passed him up a couple of years ago because I wasn't thinking about settling down.
Of course I've had my shares of ups and downs over the past 10 years, but overall things have been going good and now that I'm older and wiser I can appreciate the "bad" things from the past and have grown from those experiences.
As far as children go...NO WAY...I'm not married yet! Perhaps there will be a new announcement in the next couple of years. I have 1 cat,Onyx, a dog, Leo and; 2 turtles and 2 frogs I inherited from a coworker. I'm praying that there will be no more animals that need saving crossing my path.
Workplace
For some reason I c...Expand for more
ouldn't get a job in Rosamond or the AV. My first job was at a Dairy Queen in Portland, OR. Such fun I had at that job. Then I worked at Cool Temptations a yogurt shop at the airport. Then US Bank, Toys R Us, and First American. Finally, I got a teaching fellowship in L.A. so I packed up and came back to California with my last paycheck and the promise of $2000 at the end of 6 weeks. I did my student teaching and got hired at the school I'm at currently. I was looking to teach elementary but the program I was in was looking for special ed, math, and science teachers...I guess there's no shortages in general education at the elementary level. So I took the special ed route and am happy with my choice. I currently teach at a high school, my student have mental retardation so they're like little kids in grown bodies. I seriously second guessed my decision during the first year, I was completely stressed out and constantly tired. But now I'm on my third year and thank God things have gotten easier. I have to admit I love the feeling of having a career. I love what I do for a living and although teachers are underpaid for what we do and are responsible for, I'm getting paid a lot better than I did at any job I had.
