Tammy's Story

Life I was remarried 2-1/2 years ago to a guy I dated in High School. We both lived out of state and he sent a card to me just to hook up as friends. Ended up getting married, the same year. He is the most wonderful guy, and I would not trade him for anything. We now live in South Texas, that has a beauty all its own. I gained a son in this marriage he is 12 years old and a real sweetheart! My husband travels all over the country, and sometimes I go with. He is a regional Sales manager for a large corporation. I am a stay at home housewife, which is nice after working for 27 years. I have a grown daughter, who still lives in New Mexico, and is finishing her Masters in Accounting. She works for the taxation dept for New Mexico, as an auditor. Robert, my husband and I do alot of things for our community, and for boy scouts. In one year our son will be going to Alaska with his Boy Scout troop, to the Northern part, Barrow, Alaska. They will learn to "rough it" from the natives, as well as earn some of their merit badges. They are all working towards the trip, and earning their way through car washes and other things. If you all ever get a chance to come to South Texas, you need to. The best time to come is early spring, to see all the beautiful wildflowers, "bluebonnets especially". And for you "birder's" we have an abundance of birds year-round. I keep busy while Robert is on the road, I belong to a Quilting guild, and make alot of quilts, as gifts and for the community. I also make portraits out of wood using my scroll saw. I also make puzzles, and other wood projects. I do graphics using the computer, on photographs, and for quilts, and scrapbooking. And when the weather is nice I have a garden year-round. I travel to Colorado twice a year, and see my family. I also travel other places in the U.S. with Robert when it is feasable. My life started out rough after high school, but it was well worth it, I am happier than I could ever be. Workplace During high school, and after I graduated I work for a fast food restuarant. orked 10 years. Moved to New Mexico, and worked as a Restuarant mgr. while going to school full time. I the worked as a medical assistant for a small clinic for 2 years and got my passed National boards for EMT-B, the pursued my EMT-I the following year.I then wet to work for University of new Mexico Hospital, and worked out-pt pediatrics, rotating in newborn nursey, Nicu, and Pediatric Specialty clinic. After 2-1/2 yrs. I transferred to Family Practice Clinic, I received a phelbotomy license, and they sent me to school to cross-trained me to work the computers in the clinic. So I did patient care and office work, it was never dull. After 6 years I was transferred to a satillite clinic_ Family Practice , young childerns health, and Mothers and Infants clinic, in S.E. Albuquerque. The area is also is known as the"war zone". I received alot of good experience, at this clinic, and I learned about the different cultures of the people we treated.Drew alot of blood, Did alot of registrations, billing, and made some of the best friends, that I still have. Not just people I worked with but the patients, also. I left in 2002, and moved to South Texas, and remarried. I worked for a short time, and now I am a stay-at home house wife. I did forget to mention I did work part-time with Bernallio County 6 fire dept. as a EMT on weekends, but that only lasted 6 months, I was too used to the clinics and a more sterile enviroment. You also see alot of awful things on the streets, not that you don't in a clinic or a hospital, but I got burnt out too quick. I liked seeing the patients that we saw on a regular basis, not a one time only thing. I also should mention that I don't work now also, because of health issues. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 8 years ago, it does not get me down, you learn to cope and deal with it on a day to day basis. Besides, there is always someone much worse off then yourself. And God only gives us what we can take. The years that I worked at UNM of N.M. were the best, I met so many people, and had so many good experiences, the memories will last me a lifetime.
