Ted (Theodore)'s Story

After graduating from Floresville I moved into San Antonio to work with a relative doing roofing until I was able to go into the Air Force. I joined in June of 1969 and went to Lackland there in San Antonio for Basic Training. I was then transferred to Chanute AFB in Illinois for Technical Training School for Aircraft Jet over two engines. After finishing school I was then transferred to K.I. Sawyer AFB in Michigan, then eventually to Eileson AFB, Alaska, back to KI Sawyer, then to Anderson AFB, Guam and then back to KI Sawyer for a third time. I eventually was able to get to another warm weather base and was transferred to March AFB, there in California. I ended up working most of my Career on KC-135 aircraft or in Aircraft Maintenance Control at two bases. I started working with computers in 1972 and eventually started training individuals on them through out my career. While in the AF I did take some classes for Architectual Drafting as well as studied on my own as far as building structures. I did volunteer work working for Boy Scouts of America and held numerous positions, Red Cross as an Instructor and Family Services as a Welcoming Chairman and Spokesman. While in school I enjoyed playing basketball but got too serious and nervous that I never scored or lettered. I played slow and fast pitch softball, football, basketball and volleyball while in the service and having fun doing it. While stationed at KI the second time I was on the squadron basketball team and we ended up winning Base Champs in 72 and 73. Played volleyball while I was TDY at Barksdale AFB, LA and helped win the school Championship and helped our softball team win their game against the instructors and TI's. I retired in 1989 and went back up to Michigan where I did own a house and did have a job offer. By the time I got up there the company had folded. I did do some odd jobs along with some construction work. I was involved for over twenty years as a grief support team member as well as give support to those who need it and worked on computers every chance that I could. I eventually went back to school for Computer Networking Administrator and graduated with a 4.0 average. I also became a member of the National Vocational Technical Honor Society. I work on computers in my home and at a couple of business as well as maintaining a couple of computer networks for them. I taught classes as a volunteer at a Community Center for a couple years teaching Basic Computers to adults and assisted in teaching Cisco Networking on weekends there in Richmond. I also repaired computers for family members of active duty members that were station overseas so that they could stay in touch with their spouses. Besides working on computers I enjoy hiking, riding a motorcycle, snowmobile and ATVs when I can. I still do volunteer work when I can. I had also got involved in a couple of groups singing both in and out of the service, as well as singing solos at a couple of weddings, funerals and at times special occassions. Since my knee went out again I am not that active in sports any more, and an accident that I had while running a Cemetery where some irrigation pipes blew up, blowing me clear of the area and ended up landing on asphalt twenty-five feet from it. I had damage done to my shoulder and eventually ended up with shoulder surgery and had part of my collar bone removed so I could regain use of my arm. I work at home repairing computers that are donated to me and I give them to those that can not afford one. I worked on computers at our Church and at a school in when needed. I did maintain the computer network for the church in PA. I worked one on one with the Pastor in learning how to use a computer and some of the software. I did some volunteer work taking pictures for the Catholic School there for what is going to be ...Expand for more
their first year book. I did have fun working with the kids there. I am married and have been now for 48 years now. I have three children, two girls and one boy. Each of my kids have two kids of their own and I enjoy all six of my grand kids and four great-grand kids when I can. I lived next door to my youngest daughter and her family at least until the middle of March in 2009 at which time I moved. We moved to the UP of Michigan to be near my wife's mother so that we can help her and also help her take care of her handicap brother. I still draw pictures but not as much as I used too due to not finding the right subject that I really want to draw but instead take pictures when I can of subjects that have meant something to me as well as numerous others. Through the years of growing up and as an adult I have noticed that as an individual you can only do so much as far as trying to fit in some where but it seems that in civilian life it depends on what kind of income you have coming in, your job, where you live as well as how you live. In the military it was rank which was understandable but the higher ups knew it took the lower ranking people to get them where they were. I enjoy life and enjoy my family. I can say that I was accepted by my wife's family as well as her relatives for who I am and not how much money I make or anything else. I enjoy taking a hike and spending a day in the woods or going down a river in a canoe enjoying everything around me and not having to worry about who makes more then I do or can do something better then I can. When I had to give up sports where the competition actually was and where I actually competed against others. I don't compete any more nor do I play the political games on the job either. I have worked for different companies through the years. I did enjoy working with people. I now just repair computers at home, help others when it comes learning something about computers, helping individuals set up home networks and at times business networks when needed. I helped with Aqua Therapy for my brother-in-law twice a week. I was the Coach for the Westwood High School First Robotics Teams in Ishpeming, Michigan which I did enjoy working with the students there. I coached the Team in 2012 and 2013. I also coached an additional Team at Ishpeming High School for the 2013 season. I had also helped in getting three other Teams started at other High Schools in the UP of Michigan. I have since resigned from FIRST of Michigan due to some problems. Some of the students I have worked with have been staying in touch. Right now I have retired and have started catching up with friends and reading. I have since moved from Ishpeming due to some on going problems with a neighbor and have moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin. I am now able to relax which I haven't been able to for over a year or more. Looking at starting back up with my art work once again. I am retired due to medical problems and I am starting to enjoy the area that I am in. Right now I still enjoy taking pictures at different functions or of wild life. I have joined the Y here and walk two to three miles a day and ride a bike for an additional three miles. For relaxation the exercise, watching movies, working on computers and reading books. The biggest thing I work on each day is to see how many people I can get to smile or laugh especially with all that we have going on in our Country and abroad. Through the years I believed in helping people in what ever way that I could from saving someone, administering First Aid from an accident to helping someone in learning computers or helping someone regain confidence in themselves which at times I know I don’t have in myself. I am sorry to say that I will not longer be able to read messages and that here due to possibly dropping down to basic.
