Ted's Story
Life
I made my first million straight out of school, retired at 21, now I own a mansion and...Just kidding! Hey if you liked me when we were in school together, well, I haven't changed a bit. But if you thought I was weird or dismissed me as socially inept or whatever, then you'll be happy to know I'm a completely different person today. Judging by the puzzled looks on people's faces at the last reunion, I now seem more clean cut. I've lived on the east coast for about 12 years now, so I guess something has rubbed off, but the Californian in me lives.
Since becoming a father, I have been a walking sleep deprivation experiment. But of course it is great fun as well. My two daughters Lelia 5 and Elizabeth 4 are wonderful. I met my beautiful, amazing wife Sarah at UC Santa Barbara on my birthday 13 years ago. She is originally from the DC area, so that along with smog and some other things not to like about LA pushed us east.
My first "real" job (there were so many unreal ones before that!...Expand for more
) was on the LA subway and light rail system, so think of me when you get on those trains I helped design! Ever since I have been working in the transportation technology business, with buses, trains, electric cars and such. Back east, I spent a lot of time inside the beltway, but I am happy to report that I have made it back outside, back into the private sector, but still working on buses and trains. I now consider myself a recovering engineer. And we are learning to enjoy life more than ever. Last year we moved out to Annapolis, the sailing capital of the world. We live across the street from the beach in a quiet wooded neighborhood (something we could never afford in SoCal).
As I write, I am looking over at my electric bass guitar and amp that I haven't touched for a while. While my musical life mostly revolves around kiddie toons these days, we have branched out into some grown-up stuff. Still not sure how I'm going to explain Led Zeppelin and the Dead Kennedys to the kids though;-)
