Teresa's Story
Life
Wow, 23 years... Since high school, life has taken me in many directions... world travel, higher education, loves gained and loved ones lost, lessons learned along the way, and hopefully I have left a few marks behind for a better world. (I really do want "world peace"... ;)
I now live in beautiful Astoria, Oregon. You may recognize Astoria from movies like Kindergarten Cop, The Goonies, Free Willy 2, Short Circuit, The Ring 2... I just bought a house and moved in two weeks ago. It is located about 15 miles east of Astoria, out in the country. I don't view the Goonies House or Columbia River anymore, but that's ok... I have a much bigger place now and more piece and quiet.
I included some websites for Astoria under the announcements, check 'em out. Unfortunately, last December (2007) brought our coast (and Astoria) not one, but TWO, devestating typhoons. Four days of 100-165 mph winds without a break. It pretty well wiped out most of the forests around us and damaged nearly every building in some way or another. We are still rebuilding and the landscape has changed greatly.
Life keeps me quite busy. I am the lead Nurse/Clinician in Pulmonary / Sleep medicine here, and love it. I am also a "First Responder", "Trauma Intervention Assistant" and "CERT Team" member with the Astoria Fire Dept. In my free time... (when I do have free time...) I am a published free-lance photographer, specializing in nature and wildlife photography. I am an abassador for the city of Astoria...Expand for more
and do a lot of photography, brochures, post cards and other tourist activities. I also drive a 20-ton, 100 year old trolley! I am a Certified Motorman (motor-woman) on the "Old 300" Astoria Riverfront Trolley that runs on RR tracks along the Columbia River through Astoria. It's a blast. I am one of the few women as well as the youngest driver.
Unfortunately, due to medical reasons, I was never able to have children. But I am foster mother, Godmother and "Auntie" to many. Otherwise, my pets all have their own personalities that often resembles those of children. I am hoping to adopt (a real child) in the near future, if possible.
Two and a half years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer and underwent a radical total hysterectomy and chemotherapy. Last year, I had five more tumors removed... 4 on my spine and one in my leg, prompting a bone transplant (my tibia) as well. It's been a long recovery, but getting better every day. Sure makes you look at "living" differently! Life doesn't always turn out like you expected it to when you were young.
This year has been a busy one for me already with travel, health issues, work, etc... I would like to slow down in the future... we'll see.
A friend once told me... "Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile! Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we're here, we should dance!" I believe that too.
Take care and God bless.
