Teresa's Story
1976 - 2010 what a long time to cover. After high school I moved to Wichita, Kansas to go to college. Met a new friend in my first college class who is still my friend today. We both majored in Social Work. It was her bright idea to move to NYC for grad school. So I tagged along and got a scholarship to NYU for an MSW. We worked as nannies for Jewish families during the summer of 1980 so we could get used to the city and find a place to live when school started. a hard time adjusting to the dietary restrictions.
After grad school I moved to Florida and Georgia for a year to work in children's mental health clinics. Came back to NYC in 1984 and have been here ever since. I continued working in children's mental health and then in a pediatric HIV program in the Bronx.
My husband and I met in 1987, but it took till 1995 to actually marry. We have three wonderful boys, 12, 7 & 6. Wasn't easy getting them, but we did it. They're healthy, happy, intelligent, and kind.
