Terri's Story

Some of you may remember me as being involved in a lot of music while in high school. In fact, after high school, I went to Henderson State University in Arkadelphia where I supposedly majored in vocal music. In reality, I majored in "life". I surely did learn a lot about life in those 2 1/2 years at HSU, much more than I did about academics, that's for sure. I didn't figure out all of life's complexities, but I did figure out that I wasn't really ready (or maybe I wasn't willing) to teach music to a bunch of kids that really didn't want to be in that class... I learned that I needed more time to figure out who I was and what I really wanted to do. Long story, short version--- I came home to northwest Arkansas for Christmas, broke off my engagement, and started to work. I worked for Arkansas Western Gas for a couple of years before I got married. Before long, we had our first child, Casey, in 1980. I continued working for AWG, but started back to school when Casey was 2 1/2. My last semester of school (Elementary Education) I got pregnant with my 2nd child, Katie, who is now 22. Katie was born 7 weeks before I started practice teaching. I practice taught at Elkins and was offered a position at its completion. My first day with my own c...Expand for more
lassroom was also Casey's first day of Kindergarten. I walked her to class, then came back to begin my own first day... Both the girls stayed at Elkins until 7th grade and then transferred to Huntsville. We live near Huntsville, and between that and all the sports events they were in, it was the best for the kids. The Huntsville Sup. called me when Katie was about to start 7th grade and asked me if I didn't think I should come teach at Huntsville now that both my girls would be here also. So after 12 years at Elkins in grades 4 and 6, I began teaching 5th grade at Huntsville. This time as I began the new job, Casey was beginning her senior year of high school. I was at Huntsville for almost 12 years and taught 5th grade, 6th grade, and was the math specialist for grades 3-6. Those of you that knew me in jr. high and high school may find that one hard to believe! Two more little things that I need to mention: my GRANDKIDS! Elly was born in 2004 and Paxton in 2006. As any granny can tell you, being a grandparent is wonderful - kind of makes up for getting older...! Final twist- in August 2009, I married my college sweetheart (remember, the one that I previously broke the engagement with) and now am living in Texarkana TX. More later.
